OU bowl practice viewing notes

Welp. That is some sort of limited roster.

*Daniel Parker is back with the team. DJ Graham is now No. 81. Some portal guys are still practicing, like Josh Ellison and Brey Walker and a couple of others.

*Jalil Farooq was getting a lot of work at RB, much like the second half of the season.

*Marcus Major still out, so it's gonna be Jovantae Barnes' show. Gavin Sawchuk maybe? And I'll ask about Emeka Megwa and what his status is.

*Gotta do what you gotta do, but Marcus Stripling was working with Todd Bates, at least for a portion of what we saw.

*Andrew Raym, obviously, still out. We couldn't see much from the OL perspective. Sorry.

*DTs looked like Jeffery Johnson, Josh Ellison, Jordan Kelley, Gracen Halton, Isaiah Coe. That'll be interesting.

*We saw a lot of stretching and special teams, but it was good to get an idea of who is there and not.

*Monday interviews? If all these happen, whew. Dillon Gabriel, Jovantae Barnes, Gavin Sawchuk, Marvin Mims, Brayden Willis, Ethan Downs, Reggie Grimes, Jacob Sexton, Gracen Halton. I'll take it.

*Tweets and then we'll be back this evening.

Of the defensive starters tonight who are returning…

…which ones are in the starting lineup to start next season?

I’m not convinced that there are going to be the amount of changes that some seem to assume. I get the feeling that BV is slow to make changes in personnel with young, inexperienced players, even if more talented, and instead believes in his deliberate process, which relies heavily on time and development.

A few thoughts

Well i dont Post a ton and this may be a long post and I’m sure I’ll get roasted and called a bed wetter or something but here goes…

First off let me say that i still Think BV needs at least 3 years before we judge him. He needs time to change the soft culture here so i get That. However the guy didn’t learn a dang thing this year on how to manage a game. How many times did we either not have enough timeouts in the 4th when we needed them or the other times we kept them all in our pocket and let the clock run too much. It was abysmal, you can’t be so wrapped up in calling in signals to the defense that you can’t manage the rest of the game. I mean how many times this year did we get screwed on the spot of the ball just to sit there and not use a timeout and make them look at it? Hell it bit us tonight in the 4th quarter. We never even seen Brent screaming at the ref to look at the spot this year.

Next thought was just like the rest of y’all i agree, Roof has to go. He may be a scapegoat of this whole thing but if THE guy that BV hand picked to run his defense can’t even call the plays, and Brent is constantly have to signal in the defense then you made the wrong hire and you must move on from it asap. No need to wait, jerk the bandaid off now.

I thought Lebby was just okay tonight. Seemed relatively predictable on offense, the QB draw plays behind an offensive line with 5 new starters were just wasted plays and drive killers. That ain’t Kyler Murray back there. I was begging to see Sawchuk all year and think he’s going to be special when it’s all said and done.

I also Thought it was fitting that the game ended how it did. Knowing the defense wouldn’t get a stop when they had to have it (those two timeouts we burned for no reason would have been nice to have) but then the offense comes out and gets multiple penalties to basically end the game. Hell you can’t throw a 6 yard pass across the middle and not pick up the first down when there are 45 seconds left and no timeouts.

Bottom line is there was no reason this team should have went 6-7 and been the worst OU team in basically 25 years. Say what you want but the Big12 wasn’t a gauntlet that should have resulted in 6 losses. New staffs all over the country came in and did a way better job than what OU did this year. Tbh i dont See a lot of room for optimism next year with most of the same guys back. If you take the crimson colored glasses off idk how you can say we’ll be much better. What was shown this year that gives you hope for next season? I’m truly wondering as maybe I’m overlooking something? Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised but it’ll be 6-7 games into the year next year before I’ll believe if we actually improved. Well that’s all of my rant, flame away boys!
