Zooming In: In Depth Analysis of the Ole Miss Loss (Wow)

Good Monday!

Taking a look at some plays from this last Saturday, this first one may just be a microcosm of the issues Oklahoma is having across the offensive line.

Not only is the footwork a MAJOR issue but just getting out of your stance in order to have a chance.

What on earth is going on here?

Football Fundamental issues resurface as Sooners drop third straight game

The rhythm was there. The complementary football was there. Then it fell apart in the second half, with Ole Miss' passing game and OU's offensive line as the main culprits.

It was a tale of two halves in Oxford.

Recruiting Four-star DB Courtland Guillory discusses his OU pledge and the recent push from Texas

This is the reason why I make trips like this one. Here’s the scoop.

Basketball Roster breakdown and rotation prediction

The rotation prediction I gave for each player should be a surprise to none of you who have been following along with scrimmage and practice notes.

BV record

Brandon, Parker and Brian,

On the pod y’all were talking about his record and how bad it is and I agree it’s bad but I went and looked at Dabo record and you would be surprised to see that his first 3 years are worst than Brent’s.
08- 4-3 I think that is the season he took over.
09- 8-5
10- 6-7
11- 10-4
18- 19 through 3 years,
BV record
6-7
10-3
4-4?
20-14
Basically what I am getting at is this sucks and not the standard but we need to give BV sometime. If he falls on his face next season I will get on the bandwagon of calling for a new head coach. Not saying y’all were on the pod.

OUI 2024 Survivor Pool - Week 9

And down goes Texas. Week 8 brought mostly comfortable wins for CFB's undefeated teams (save for ISU's miracle escape versus UCF, and Miami's Riley-style track meet win over Louisville), but the Pool did receive a shake-up in the form of erstwhile top-ranked Texas falling at home to the Dawgs. In all, we saw six competitors fall from the Survivor Pool ranks.

A tribute to the fallen:

Hooked By The Horns (2) - @siderks1226 , @Sooners for life
Forgot We Were Doing This (4) - @ardmoresooner , @foopuhh , @Jbarrett77 , @youngbillable

Here's a "game reset" as we prep for Week 9. Our original list of 214 contenders now stands at almost exactly half of that, with 108 still in the game. Meanwhile, CFB's unbeaten list has been trimmed from 11 down to 10.

For the first time all season, we actually have a single leader. Here's how many teams our remaining survivors have used so far:
  • 3 Teams (1) - Well done, @MarkBoomerOU1 . For the moment, you're winning.
  • 4 Teams (59) - Right on Mark's heels.
  • 5 Teams (40) - Still a chance.
  • 6 Teams (8) - Needing some chaos. Quickly.
Most widely-used teams so far:
  • Navy (97)
  • Army (80)
  • Penn State (70)
Least widely-used teams so far:
  • Miami, FL (12)
  • Liberty (20)
  • BYU (26)
For those of you still in the game, post your Week 9 selections in the thread below.

Football LIVE GAME THREAD: Oklahoma at Ole Miss

Well folks, the Sooners are playing another football game today.

The full OU Insider team is in Oxford, Mississippi and will have you covered both here and on the OUInsider Youtube Channel.

Kickoff is at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN.

Anyone have a score prediction?

OUInsiders…

Nobody here wants to hear the crap anymore. How awesome “so and so” is going to be. Nobody wants to hear how “great the offense” was in practice. Nobody wants the empty promises anymore. We want real stuff. The whole “we can’t say” stuff is dumb.
What are we even paying for? To be lied to? Are lies insider info?
To hear about commitments the day before they happen? I’ve watched stuff on your YouTube shows before I’ve read them here.

It’s old. Don’t want to hear that Johnson is the best WR/CB duo since Jesus just to watch a freshman walk in play at WR and play better than the 4stars we have.

Don’t want to hear that Hawkins is the best ball handler and never turns it over just for him to throw 2 pick six in first 5 minutes of the game.

Just be real. Leave your opinions to yourself and tell us what is happening.

And get new sources. They suck.

Progress on offense; maybe some positives ahead?

I think we may be about to turn a corner.

I was at the game yesterday. It was a fun first half. The offense looked much better against a goood Ole Miss squad, and the OL was improved until Sexton got hurt and we were forced to go into drop back mode late in the game. Still, it beat the heck out of the Texas and South Carolina games, and I think we can win more than just the Maine game.

First, we should finally be getting Burks back soon, most likely no later than Missouri. Farooq could be back by then too. Hopefully one or both of Jake Taylor or Sexton is back too. Then we caught a break. Unfortunately for Missouri, their qb hurt his hand and already had a bum ankle. It’s not clear if he will be back or anywhere close t0 100% if he is back. You hate it for that guy, but it greatly improves our chances of a W (without Cook, we likely win in my opinion).

After Missouri, we get a bye before Bama. You have to think Burks and Farooq are back by then. That’s four weeks away. Maybe at least one if not both the Jake’s are too. And with all that time for the offense to build on the progress it showed today, we could look much stronger. That at least gives us a chance.

I will feel a heck of a lot better if we can finish the regular season with a win against Maine and at least one of Missouri, Bama, or LSU, especially if we at least look fairly competitive. Regardless, I will be there cheering them on each game just as I have the past games.

It’s 2024…

And we are lucky we don’t play Vanderbilt because we would get our ass beat. Think about hearing that a few short years ago.

The fact that people are “excited” about the “progress” in the first half shows how far this program has fallen. We scored 14 points in the first half. We used to score 28 points per quarter.

I watch programs like Indiana and Vanderbilt. How are these teams, which apparently play with inferior talent, able to move the ball and play competitive, disciplined football?

I wanted Brent to be the guy, but I’m not sure he can recover from this disaster of a season. Could anyone have scripted a worse start in the SEC? We are so far from the top.
