I get his point, but I don't think it's great. I think it shows lack of much consideration, just a knee-jerk this equals this.

The SAE boys made OU a dangerous environment towards themselves.

I don't recall any campus protests after the Mixon decision.

So Boren kicked them off campus for their own safety? lol ok.

I remember posting that this would come around. With Mixon's presence on the field, the media will be in full force w/ negative press. We'll hear about it all year. And so will he. If he doesn't deliver to the hype he's recv'd, it'll get louder. If he delivers & OU gets game of the week considerations, the National Media will beat him up as well. Not to mention the trash talking he'll hear on the field, before, during and even after the game. Mixon best better have his head on right and clearly focused as he's about to experience some negative press like he's never had before, including last year.

It'll be interesting to see how he handles it.

Yep, in some respects, save the racists component, Joe is going to get the full Jackie Robinson treatment.

I hope he's tough as Robinson was.
What happens if the video comes out sometime during the season? It won't look good for OU if that happens. I gotta admit I have mixed feelings about this kid

No. He kicked them off for explicit racist behavior. Behavior that makes a situation volatile - this includes the perpetrators.

Do you giggle when convicts are escorted with protective vests?

Well, best get your mind right about Mixon.

He's paid his penance, and I wish everyone would just get off his back. Damn it to hell!
He'll be a stud for OU if y'all stop the sanctimonious shit!

Look, you butt heads are forcing me to bring out parables...

"Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone" You whiny bitches. Just stop.
Does this apply to the guys in the frat?

I agree Fitty. It's too late to be whining now. He'll be attempting to score TDs in a couple of months in a Sooner uniform. This is going to play out and some Sooner fans are not going to be able to handle it when the circus starts. Which personally I really don't care about. The best thing for OU football at this point is that Mixon plays well, keeps his head down, & shows humility. Anything without these three things is just going to make things a bit harder for all.

I don't give a damn about the frat boys, that is unless they are OU good and can tackle, block, pass, catch, run, and kick.
All are free to believe as they wish. I just happen to think that it was a double standard when comparing these situations. I believe the kid on the video even gave a press conference and apologized for his actions and I'm sure many on campus are willing to forgive. I guess Boren had already made up his mind.

I'm on the fence regarding the Mixon incident, but the decision has been made and Joe has done everything that has been asked of him....apparently.....so there isn't anything more for him to do except be the best player, student and citizen he can be going forward. But if Joe Mixon had signed with Texas and punched a UT gal like he did the girl in Norman....and Texas decided to punish him in the same way as Boren punished Joe here at OU, I would be willing to bet a pretty good sum that a lot more OU fans would be saying the same thing that Tony C is saying now. Just saying.

This goes without saying.
Whether we like it or not, fairly or unfairly, there will always be fallout from the Mixon misdeed, above and beyond this message board. Personally, I believe Casiilas is right. I will hate hearing the backlash from the media and opposing fans that is certain to come along. OU and Stoops could be in for some harsh criticism for the way this event (and others) was handled....and I believe that had Mixon been a reserve player no one would come to his defense and he would be kicked off the team. Too often it seems it's all about scoring touchdowns and winning games, even at the expense of a program's reputation and image.
We can debate this situation either way and with the usual heated comments, but what should concern us is OU's image....and if Mixon's video gets released during the season, say on the eve of the Texas game, there will be a huge shit storm resulting.
These kind of situations are getting to be excessive on the pro and college landscape and until there are unconditional rules of conduct laid down, they will continue.
An evening curfew for incoming freshman during the first school year, or at least the first semester of their freshman year, might be a good....proactive....idea. I would like to know if any new guidelines were implemented following Mixon's assault to keep such an event from happening again.

Tony is entitled to his opinion. I would just say trying to compare the FSU issues of their two QBs with that of OU's issues with Shannon, Mixon and the Frat issue isn't easy to do.

OU under Boren took immediate action on all three issues. We don't exactly know about Shannon's guilt or innocence. We do know that Mixon was race bated by a woman who was drunk, belligerent and took a swing at him. We all know that Mixon was wrong in hitting her. The frat is a totally different kind of issue and under the current race sensitivity, Boren and OU had no choice and I think the did the right thing.

FSU and Jimbo Fisher along with the FSU campus police and the Tallahassee police department covered up the Winston alleged rape situation. They turned their collective backs on all of the Winston indiscretions. In my mind, FSU and Fisher did everything possible to keep Winston eligible because their NC hopes fell on Winston playing.

On, this last FSU QB issue with Johnson I think they did the right thing. It is pretty clear from the video that Johnson instigated the incident as he was holding the girls right arm when he swung at her. Still Johnson was a freshman and likely FSU has several other options for a QB.

Look up the records and you will find that FSU is one of the FBS teams with the greatest number of arrests of football players. They have a horrile record in that regard and their prior record of handling them isn't a great one.

So, I would be the last one to praise FSU for handing one of literally dozens of cases over the last few years. Each of these situtions Tony is using in his argument is different. I just think it is really hard to judge which issue and subsequent punishment is wrong or lenient.

Besides the OU issues are water under the bridge. I really didn't think OU should have let Mixon stay at OU. The Shannon and Frat issues, I think OU likely made the right decisions. I think since the local DA choose to not file felony battery charges against Mixon was revealing. Felony charges weren't made against Mixon as the DA simply didn't want to file the same charges against the female.

I think Tony would have been better off keeping his mouth shut over the FSU and Johnson issue.

This is the double standard of political correctness that I can't see being defended. Even if you can justify the double standard of the actual offending frats that were involved; how do you kick the entire group out of their house........guilt by association?

Forget the whole sports argument, I just have zero respect for a politician like Boren.

You think the two boys in the video have the ventriloquist skills to recreate the sound of an entire choir?

So you're saying the entire house of over 100 was on the bus.
It was done for political correctness by a university president who is basically a politician. By all accounts, Mixon has done what has been asked of him and maybe he does deserve a second chance, but I think the same should have been afforded to the frat kids.

Reality is it was done to rid the campus of a frat house that fostered that kind of behavior. Had Boren not taken action as he did so quickly, OU would have taken a huge public relations bath. Then when that happened he would have been hugely criticized for not taking the necessary action.

Maybe so Roy. It just seemed a little heavy handed to me.

Unless you know the whole story including the behind the scenes information/data I would not be using the term heavy handed. I would assume first and foremost that there is much more to the story than what was out in the public. You certainly haven't heard much from those in the frat house themselves.

You are making an assumption. Maybe there was but maybe there wasn't. I do know they made a public apology and from what I saw it seemed to be accepted by many people including black students. Whatever the case, what is done is done.

Can't be a double standard IMO. One scenario was by design, the other, in the heat of the moment. Neither was good, but one was done with pure hate in their hearts, the other pure stupidity in his brain.

How do you know those guys hate pure hate in their hearts? You can't know that. I think it was just a bunch of immature idiots and nothing more. We aren't dealing with the KKK here.

Come on BW, I've never heard anyone referring to lynching with the love of Jesus in their heart.
fitty your "likes" must be going to your head. Nobody said they were great kids. I said it is doubtful these are hardcore racists and should have been forgiven and given another opportunity. Make them do community service or whatever it takes and allow them to work their way back on campus. I'm kinda surprised by anyone that just blows off what Mixon did like it was no big deal.
