Zac Alley

I mean no disrespect here but…

1. How do we know those injuries would have happened under someone else?

2. Saben if he had been hired, would have been here long before June and would have likely brought in his own staff and some players that would have followed him to hell and back.

3. Doubt the OL would have been in shambles.

4. I would almost 100% say Arnold would have advanced under a Saben led staff. If he didn’t you can guarantee he would have started the QB who did.

Just saying ……
1, we don’t know if the injuries would have happened under another coach. I only presenting a hypothetical situation, based on what really happened.
2, this hypothetical scenario is based on Saban having the same staff as Venables. Obviously, iSaban would not have assembled the same staff.
3, with the same offensive line personnel, how would Saban done?
4, in this hypothetical scenario, with the same injuries and a patchwork offensive line, could Saban have had more success with Arnold?
No doubt OU would be in a much better situation had Saban followed Riley.

In all honesty I am not really one to use hypotheticals. We really have no way to know.

This does remind me about an OU friend of mine who once asked me “ How many NC would OU have if a playoff had been in place from the beginning.” We will never know the answers to that either.

It is me who presented a hypothetical scenario. Not you.

I think Alley should have stayed at OU at least another season regardless of what happens with V. We have a lot of kids on D coming back next season and should be good on that side of the ball again. He could then probably find a better job than WV.
All about the $$$$
Details about his new gig and pay were released. WV almost doubled his salary.

"According to Tulsa World's Eric Bailey on Thursday, Alley's contract with West Virginia is a three-year deal worth $4.5 million. Alley will reported have a yearly salary of $1.5 million.

For comparison, Alley's salary during his only season with OU was $850,000. He was expected to eventually get $50,000 raises the next two years, but that still would not have equalled what the Mountaineers are paying him now.

That wasn't the only incentive West Virginia offered Alley, though, according to Bailey. The Mountaineers also gave Alley $100,000 for moving expenses and up to $15,000 for temporary housing."

So with this info we know OU didn’t match the offer. According to another forum ( DB) there is a rumor that OU is going after Jim Knowles. Again it is just a rumor and if true then if you are going to spend that kind of cash on a DC then go after someone with the track history Knowles has.

Alley likely was motivated by the cash and being able to run his own system at WV. May be why he left, BV wouldn't let him have full control. My question is will Knowles be given full control and if not why would he come?

I agree on Knowles. Maybe a hire like this would send the message that BV will allow Knowles to run his own system and BV concentrates soley on being the HC.
