Would anyone even know about Briles on the field if not for the media?

If he came after the game and fans had left, to join the other family of staff and players, I think it makes sense to expect it not to be a distraction. The only reason it is a distraction and the only reason fans are upset, is because a few media members decided to make it public. So what is the point? The media is literally manufacturing the story. They made the fans aware of it, then wrote stories about the fans being upset.

I'm as against Art Briles as anyone, and the university should not associate with him in any official capacity. But can we please not gloss over the fact that this is entirely a media manufactured story? A self-fulfilling prophecy, so-to-speak. If it's a distraction, it's because the media made it a distraction.

The reason people were upset is because they assumed from the posted photos that he was on the sideline during the game or had a sideline pass. The people who took those photos and posted about it knew the context in which it was taken and presented it without that context.
