Sorry for the delay. There were things happening. Things have happened. And things are about to happen.
It's been a rough week. I lost the lottery on Tuesday night. Then Wednesday we lost the inventor of the Green Bean Casserole.
Combine that with the Thunder porous 0-4 start and you could basically say I'm having the worst week in the history of weeks. Did get a nice Houston Texans cover last night. Enough about me.
The Ruffin McNeill/Bob Diaco era (?) is off to a roaring start. I think. Hell, OU learned to tackle. Don't let these guys get hot.
This comes to you late today because of two things. 1.) I went to the Thunder game last night and it really pissed me off. I also was overserved (again!). 2.) I do a radio show in the morning and didn't feel like putting it together. So I'm slightly hungover (sup) and battling a tremendous case of the lazy.
Back to football -- sort of.
It's homecoming week in the state of Oklahoma. Cool stuff. I chuckle about the idea of homecoming as it couldn't be more different on the campuses of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
In Stillwater homecoming is an event. Almuni flock back to town for the Friday night walk-around. The weekend is made into a can't miss reunion of sorts. It's actually a pretty fun experience. Who doesn't like walking around with a cocktail in hand on a college campus? Sounds fun to me. Is fun.
In Norman homecoming is nothing more than a side act to the football game. Usually the only way I know it's homecoming is when I'm told the Monday of game week. This week was no different.

I suppose you all want a few real sports opinions.
Thought OU played better defensively. Tackling was improved. Hell it even looked like they had an idea about what they were trying to execute. Ruffin would tell you the players were being the call. Which is interesting for a number of reasons.
The idea that Oklahoma doesn't add to it's defensive game plan after noon on Wednesday is wild. Perhaps that happens at a lot of places. I didn't play college football so really couldn't tell you one way or another. Deleting plays from the playbook the night before the game seems unusual as well. Maybe it's so crazy, that shit might just work. Unfortunately, only time will tell.
Just as we did(n't) last weekend, I don't think we learn much about this new look defensive unit this weekend. Sure, maybe we'll reconfirm this is a soft team defensively. But we already knew that. You don't wake up and start being a physical defense overnight.
What we do have the opportunity of observing is the continued building of a foundation that will be needed in places like Lubbock and Morgantown.
Talking to members of the OU defense it's a night and day difference in attitude over the last month. That's not a jab at Mike Stoops. It's just the truth.

Here's a bunch of thoughts/predictions to close:
* The Boston Red Sox will win the World Series by the end of the weekend. As much as I would like to see it (for the theatre/spectacle of it) this ain't going back to Fenway. 36 runs with two outs in the postseason is an insane number.
* As a self-proclaimed fan of LeBron James I've been pretty split on his move to the Lakers. Not a fan of Los Angeles, but am fan of LeBron. It's getting easier to stomach. Still looks really strange.
* Remember how I told you all last week we are in the heart of 'best time of the year for sports'? I completely forgot to mention that we are in one of my favorite golf viewing seasons. I'm sure you're thinking ... what the hell is this guy talking about? It's not golf season. Oh you couldn't be more wrong. Watching tournaments overseas (TV coverage usually starting around 9/10p) is one of my favorite pasttimes. It's kind of strange, I know.
* I hope everyone made money last night on the WestVirgina/Baylor game. There's nothing better earning a cover by halftime.
* Don't really know what I'm thinking but I like Oklahoma State straight up this weekend vs. Texas. Yikes.
Hey. Welcome to the weekend. Don't screw this up.
