So what's up? I mean what in the hell is up. Let me start by apologizing for my absence last Friday. I was lazy. And you all deserve better.
Speaking of deserving better ... let's talk Oklahoma defense. No, I don't want to, either. But we have to.
It is what is BUT why and how has it happened? The coaching -- it would seem -- has been bad. The play by the players even worse. Lincoln Riley doesn't want to say it. And deservedly so. But this whole thing needs a damn rebuild. Bring in Chip and JoAnna Gaines.
Sometimes I feel like we are living in a real life episode of Intervention. You've seen Intervention, right? The real-life documentary on A&E.
I'm just waiting for Jeff VanVonderen to waltz in and sit down Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma defensive coaching staff.
Will you agree to seek help?

Surpisngly OU-Kansas weekend has given us a number of storylines over the past years. Samaje Perine set the NCAA single game rushing record in 2014. Baker Mayfield grabbed his groin last season. Still funny to me. Sorry Dave Pasch and Greg McElroy.
Okay, so for storylines this weekend?
I suppose the Don Key Award should garner some attention. Might set Carson Meier as the odds on favorite heading into tomorrow. Nick Basquine has a unique story as well. I'm always a fan of the Oklahoma kid that grew up a Sooner fan living out his dream. Meier is doing just that. Even turned himself into a more than just serviceable ballplayer.
I'll never forget interviewing him with @Josh_M after a Tulsa Union his senior season. The interview was cut short after the stadium lights were turned out on us. Think we did a good job of editing it out, but here's the interview:

Exiting the game with no injuries is also a given storyline. With a massive game a week from today(!), Oklahoma will want to get its starters out of the game early.

And so it begins ... Kyler Murray's 'official' Heisman campaign that is. Oklahoma unveiled the #KylerKnows campaign Thursday night and I must say. It f**ks.
Murray sent the wheels in motion with a picture of him portraying the iconic Bo Jackson Nike ad campaign.
Followed by Oklahoma's full release of the KylerKnows.com website.
Oklahoma's athletic communications staff and multimedia team is somewhat used to this. They've now lead Heisman campaigns in three consecutive seasons (kinda crazy). Pretty incredible work by Mike Houck and Co.
Also heard there's more to come on this front. Stay tuned.

* Texas is 1-7 on Senior Day this decade. That's an insane number to me.
* Oklahoma had 18 players named to the Academic All-Big 12 team. So no arrests over the summer and Oklahoma is getting it done in the classroom? Not good. I thought they were trying to win championships. Sorry if you don't get the joke there.
* I've always been a huge fan Orlando Brown the person. This is very well done.
* This really might be some of my best work:
* The Vape God Tommy Smokes ... INCREDIBLE.
* I stand with Ed Oliver ... let the man wear a coat. What a dumb rule to have anyhow. Yes, Ed Oliver has quit on his team. Yes, it's not a good look what went down on the Houston sideline. No, he's not going to fall in the draft because of it.
I saw some 'coaches' throwing a temper tantrum about it on the interwebs. How dare Ed Oliver defy the team rules! This is how you lose a team, lack of discipline! Easy there, Chief. How 'bout you chill out for a minute. Breathe a little bit. I actually laughed out loud at some of the responses.
Oliver leaving the stadium at halftime (as it was reported) is worse than anything he ever did with a winter coat on in 50-degree Houston. That's the worst look out of all of this. It's unlikely to cost him money at the end of the day, but certainly not the kind of parting shot you want to remember Ed Oliver's Houston career by. It sort of is what it is.
Ok, cool. #HookEm.
