Who is the best Sooner all-time from north of Mason-Dixon line?

Can't believe this never crossed my mind. Darn good question, with a couple likely candidates already mentioned. Prior to the Stoops regime, I bet there were very few. (Northeners.)

Only northern Sooners I recall are:
DT Dick Paaso (Massachusetts) 1966-68.
DE Victor Brown (New Jersey) 1974-77.
Josh Heupel (South Dakota) 1999-2000.
Lawrence Dampeer (Illinois) 2003-04
Bernard Hall (Michigan)1986-88.
Erik Swensen (Illinois)
Joseph Wete (DC).
Brandon Braxton (Ohio).
Austin Siebert (Illinois).
There were others.

Steve Zabel gets my vote. Great OU player, All American and 10 year veteran of the NFL. Number 6 pick in the NFL draft back in the early ‘70’s. Played both sides of the ball. Colorado high schooler who was born in Minnesota.

Are we talking about the official Maison-Dixon line? Or are we extending it from coast to coast for purposes of this discussion? If the latter, Heuple is the only player that comes to mind. Assuming he is from north of that latitude.

Missouri was the odd state out in that divide. Officially, it's south, but geographically, it's kinda north. I can see his/her confusion.
Billy Sims came to Hooks, Texas to start the 8th grade....and Missouri was a border state during the Civil War as were Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware and Kentucky.
I consider Missouri more of a southern state even though it never seceded from the Union at the start of the war.

One guy that wouldn't win this competition but I think deserves a mention is Brandon Moore. Starter on that '01 D that some (myself included) say was Stoops' best, then went on to play 6-8 years in the League.

Just going with what Sims considers himself. He has a story about (DKR? I believe) coming to Hooks to recruit him. The coach was talking about Texas kids should stay and play in Texas.

Billy said "well I'm from St Louis so are you saying I should play for Missouri then?"

The Texas coach changed his tune real quick.

Billy considers himself from St Louis and that part of Missouri is very mid western/ rust beltish
