I have heard Mullen can be lazy on the Recruiting trail and that was one of the complaints about him as HC at Florida. He may be the best option for our situation as he has said he wants a HC Gig again and if BV cannot get it done he might get a shot and slide right in if BV is let go after next season. Not sure how I would feel about him as HC if it went down that way tho. All of its out of my hands anyway so not gonna lose any sleep over any of it.
I hope OU is not going to go down that rabbit hole with hiring SEC retreads. All the SEC Schools seem to do it and it rarely works out. Mullen (Florida OC, MSU HC, Florida HC), Muschamp (HC at Florida and SC, Co DC at Georgia 2022 to 2024 now a Defensive analyst there, been at LSU and many others, Orgeron ( Ole Miss HC LSU HC, DC at Southern Cal did win a Natty with talent at LSU but was a one hit wonder, interim HC at Southern Cal) Kiffin, ( HC at Southern Cal, HC at Tenn, HC at OM, OC at Bama) seems to be doing ok at OM but will likely bolt if his stock keeps rising but so far has not won anything of substance and until he does he is likely stuck in the Sip. Even Spurrier didn't do much after he left Florida then fired by the Redskins and landed in SC, back in the SEC, Houston Nutt (Arkansas HC Ole Miss HC, Hugh Freeze ( Ole Miss HC now Auburn HC and I am sure I am forgetting some more.
Mullen to me is a good OC and like Brent is a good DC I don't think either of them are good HC's. I don't see any good OC's currently on a good team leaving to come to OU right now so its either Mullen or some up and comer thats more of a gamble than Mullen. Its likely more of a who wants to come here right now vs who do we really want but can't get. A lot different a scenario when you are winning and the OC is hired away as a HC somewhere (this is where BV blew it big time, he probably could have gotten a great OC but instead hired a buddy) vs having just fired one mid season, the Offense is one of the worst in the Country and the HC's future is on shaky ground. Your choices get very limited imo.
