Where will OU fall in the first CFP Poll?

It's nothing more than a curiosity for me. The Sooner's loss came too late in the season to recover. Also, I've never been into bashing student athletes or the coaches, so this isn't a bash, just the truth... our defense simply doesn't belong in the playoffs.

OU was one and done in the CFP the past few years with two of OU's greatest QBs and with very weak defensive units....and this year, with Hurts, who's clearly not on the same level as his predecessors, and with a defense that's in the process of being reinvented with a long road ahead in becoming championship caliber....has me believing this 2019 team should not be playoff bound by any stretch of the imagination.
In other words, Grinch needs more time and Rattler needs to play up to his perceived potential before OU can realistically talk about #8.

My top 10
1) LSU
2) Ohio State
3) Alabama
4) Clemson
5) Penn State
6) Oregon
7) Georgia
8) OU
9) Utah
10) Auburn

Clemson and Penn State are neck and neck. Given what is in front of us, I see us on the outside looking in. Oregon would get the nod ahead of us should it come down to that. And that is unfortunate.

The opponent winning percentage list was quite compelling. I guess other teams could stumble worse than what we did in Manhattan. We have to win out convincingly. Hope LR and Grinch realize the foot has to be on the gas pedal for us to have any looks by the Committee. Still #1 in total offense so that should count for something.

I think we saw our last playoff appearance for a while last year. Suits me just fine until the Defense gets their act together.

I think the SEC gets 2 teams in, LSU and Bama. If they could get three in they would.
Then tOSU and Clemson.
What a mess it will be if there are 3 one loss sec teams, doubtful but could happen. Georgia has that bad loss to South Carolina though.
I have also noticed over the years sec teams move up in the polls the fastest and don't drop as far after a loss.
At this point I just hope we win out and get a good bowl thats a good matchup for us.

AP poll is out. UGA jumped Oregon and rose 2 spots to be #6. If I was an Oregon fan this would piss me off considering they just beat the crap out of USC and didn’t move at all. Thank goodness in the grand scheme of these things these polls mean squat.

Hurts would play better with last year’s offensive line and Riley would call a better game, too. Just saying.

I’m thinking we play the best SEC team not in the playoffs.

Yep, if we win out it could be Georgia.
I think Bama beats LSU in a close game and Bama wins the SEC CG vs Georgia.
LSU and Bama will both get in most likely.

If one were to lose two games I’d pick Alabama to do it, which would open the gate for one loss teams like OU or Oregon, should they win out. Lot of IFs. Georgia would be a really tough foe to draw for the bowl game.

if the LSU - Bama loser still gets in over another 12-1 P5 champ then the committee is sending the same message the AP and Coaches do. That message being that the letters SEC mean more to them than actual data. The link below is over at the main board and an Alabama loss should pretty much end the debate. That would leave Bama with only one possible win ( Auburn) if they won out from there over a quality opponent. LSU would have a case if they lost but Alabama doesn’t have a leg to stand on if they lose.

The argument is that Oregon lost to SEC Auburn which didn’t come close to winning the conference. Not my argument but one that will be made nonetheless if questioned about it. Nothing much will be said about it being a 27-20 score in August.

True but if Utah beats Oregon and goes 12-1 then that Auburn argument holds no water and this is why I am pulling for Utah over the Ducks. The question then becomes if Alabama is 11-1 and loses to only an undefeated LSU team at seasons end will the brand name once again trump the more deserving Utah team at that point.

We already know that is exactly what happened to Oklahoma St years ago even though every data out there showed OSU with the tougher schedule.

So yep Utah is likely screwed over the same way in that scenario even though this one will be determined by a kangaroo court of 13 men instead of a bunch of idiot voters with agendas.

It doesn't help when you have idiots on espn a few weeks ago before Georgia lost to SC saying they would put Georgia, Bama and LSU in the Playoffs.
I know they are not on the Playoff Committee but this is the same type of garbage thats spewed daily by these idiot talking heads pushing an agenda and would be why 2 SEC teams make it in.
I wish they would be left out of the playoffs this year if all 3 have one loss and lets say Oregon wins out as well as tOSU and Clemson as well as OU, but that will never happen.
I think it will be
Bama
Clemson
tOSU
LSU

OU will play Georgia in the Shugah.

I just don't want to play LSU in New Orleans. But it could happen.

I would have no issue with OU playing either LSU, Alabama or UGA in the Sugar if they get there. I look at this way, say the committee puts 2 SEC teams in and OU beats either a 1 loss LSU or Bama while UGA defeats the other in the SEC CCG to make 3 SEC teams finish 12-1.

A OU victory over either sends the message that the committee left out a very deserving OU team as a conference champion just so they could put 2 SEC teams in. This could very well have a ripple effect in future selection processes.

I Hate the current system process because we are allowing and even accepting allowing a group of humans to decide who gets a shot and who doesn’t and you can’t convince me that bias doesn’t exist in that room. Bottom line is it needs to be no less than a 8 team playoff where all 5 P5 conference champions are represented, 1 G5 as long as they are either 13-0 or 12-1 ( Include ND with this group since they refuse to join a conference ) and 2 WC. Take the selection process out of the hands of humans and make conf championships mean something again.

After reading all of these posts, I just want to say that I really wish we had a real playoff system. Get rid of the bowls and have a real playoff system like every other division in college football does.

The last time we played LSU in Nawlins, it was the worst fan experience ever for the majority of Sooner fans who went there. LSU fans were despicable. Anybody else is fine. LSU anywhere else is fine. LSU in New Orleans is a horrible experience for a bowl game, which is supposed to be fun.

Amen

I guess I'm in the minority on this, because I'll go to my grave believing a team such as '96 Texas (they won the inaugural B12 CCG in that upset over NU) who lost 4 regular season games (& a 5th when they got their hat handed to them in Tempe by Penn St.) has any place in the discussion for a natty.

On top of that, Texas lost to the worst OU team in my lifetime, giving John Blake is first win, after four losses to start his first season.

Three of those four losses were at home to three eventual 4-7 teams, TCU, Tulsa and Kansas. The other was a blowout loss to a quality San Diego St team out there. No wonder Texas took an 0-4 Sooner team for granted enough to get beat in overtime. James Allen's greatest moment.

That though would be a rarity and it's not like it would happen every year. I get the argument but as KC said why even play these CCG if they really mean nothing. This whole setup was wrong from the beginning considering there are five P5 conferences to begin with.

On top of that for those that are concerned about a 3 or even 4 loss team getting you can always have provision in place that in those instances allows a replacement for them from another conference. The biggest joke in college football though is the term used by so many fans ( mostly SEC fans ) "We just want the 4 best teams". Based on what outside of opinion? Those that say 4 best are really saying that they like the system in place now where even if you don't win your conference or your division that you can still get selected by a small group that conducts business behind closed doors.

Yea I heard the horror stories from some people that went. Some fan bases are just ass hats in general. In my experience the worst I have encountered are Texas A&M fans when I went down to a game in College Station back in the mid 90's.
