Some really good stuff this evening.
You do things differently than old school guys. Why didn't you pull Lamb after those penalties?
Oh well, it wasn't a penalty. I saw what happened. That's why I've always been not too quick to judge, because if I go pull him out of the game right there, then I take one of our better players off the field in an important game. Unless I see something obviously egregious out there, then absolutely, we'll get it addressed. But I think in that moment, I've always tried to remain calm, to see what happened. If I don't know, I'm not always gonna assume. I had an official there tell me he kicked him, but I also saw with my own two eyes what happened. Certainly wasn't happy about it, but in that moment, too, I've got a guy that's had 10 of them, something like that, and they're all egregious, then yeah, it's gotta be dealt with. But I think that's the first penalty that CeeDee's ever had post-whistle. So again, I want my guys playing on the edge, understand every now and then we're gonna get one because of it, but I just can't have them playing soft.
Bookie practice this week:
He’s doing better. We’ll see. He’s doing better. He’s been able to do a few things with us but kind of like last week, I think we’ll see here in the next couple of days if he’s fully functional. I think there’s a chance but also we thought there was a chance last week too. So we will see.
Mykel Jones:
Mykel was injured all of camp. I think he practiced maybe once the entire camp. We didn’t play him early because he hadn’t worked out. He’s continually gotten healthy. He’s got some games left. He’s played in a couple right now. We’ll continue to evaluate it. He’s a guy who we have confidence in. He’s made plays around here. He’s certainly not forgotten right now but he’s a candidate for redshirt right now.
Jonathan Alvarez:
He has (given up football). We were going to announce it after the game. Injuries piled up a little bit too high for him. I had a conversation with him and his family. He loves this place more than anybody. He’s been one of the most committed guys that we’ve had over the last several years. It probably made it that much more difficult. It got to a point where it had just crossed the line and it was time. We hate it for him. It’s kind of like Marcelias and kind of like Rodney. It’s those guys last year here and I hate for it to end that way but he had a tremendous career here. He’s a big part of a lot of victories. He’s still with us. Unfortunately it’s a decision that needed to be made and it’s the right one.
Rodney back for a game:
Rodney’s been great. I talk to him a bunch. He’ll be back. He’ll be here for Senior Day. He’s going to be around here plenty. He and his family have been great. I talked to them through the rehab process, through declaring for the draft, all the stuff that we do with all of our guys. It’s been great.
