* Bob Stoops tried to play coy about about the alternate uniforms, but he did admit they are working on "something" for this weekend. So look for some alternate uniforms. He didn't give any details on what they might wear, but still hearing all red unis.
* I talked to Bob today about this Dove Men's Care promotion he's doing. Dove is doing a campaign to highlight high school and youth coaches around the country and Bob will kind of be the face of the campaign.
Here is my Q&A with him about that.
Q: You’re going to be back on people’s TVs doing commercials again?
Oh I don’t know what will come of it. But I did some things for a day and it’s a positive thing – recognizing youth and high school football coaches that have a chance to be recognized and honored at the hall of fame. That’s pretty special.
Yeah, hopefully it will play out well.
Q: Liked the cause behind it?
Yeah. I’m the product of a high school coach and all those guys get little to no recognition and this is a chance for them to really be recognized and honored and have a trip to the college hall of fame on a good weekend. That’s as good as it gets for them.
Q: What type of commercial?
It’s not a commercial. It’s just a promotional campaign they had and they wanted a face for it and I, again, being a product of a high school coach said, ‘Yeah, sure.’ You know, it’s a good thing.
* It's interesting. Bob and I talked after the media session today and he told me something I had never heard before. He said he was approached to be one of the coaches in the movie The Blindside. You'll remember OU was actually recruiting Michael Oher.
Bob turned down the offer to be in that movie and he said he has always regretted doing that because the Blindside comes up so much when he's recruiting high school kids and talking to families.
Bob said he doesn't want to turn down anymore opportunities to get Oklahoma out there in the national spotlight if things are done well and have good people behind them.
That's why you've seen him being more active the last few years in doing some of this stuff.
* We haven't had a lot of meetings with Bob this week during Wednesdays. It's a small group and he doesn't want to talk about injuries so we didn't ask. I do expect Darlington and Kasitati to be ready to go at this point.
* As Bob Stoops was answering a question about Roy Williams he hit Siri on his phone. "I don't understand your question."
* Stoops said all the familiarity between Holgorsen, Bedenbaugh, and Riley won't really change things that much other than knowing a few subtle things like if Holgorsen has success with a play he likes to go back to it again. He said Mike Leach was the same way. I'm assuming Lincoln Riley is the same way too.
* A lot of talk about the 3-3-5 defense West Virginia runs.
"If there was magic to it everybody would do it. It can be complicated, but it still gets down to better players. The better players with about anything you do, the better you look. It gives you some versatility and it can be flexible with only three guys down, but it still gets back to how well you’re playing it too." - Stoops
