I haven't checked but, is that a high number or about average with the other teams around? To me that sounds high but I don't have anything to measure it by.

Im sure that number will increase. With Brooks and (if) Sermon returns that is a crowded running back room. Wouldnt surprise me to see Pledger on that list.

I would be more concerned if starters were listed. These guys got lower and lower in depth chart, so I cannot fault them wanting to get some playing time elsewhere. RB and WR room both are very crowded. I really wonder why LR has not discussed the potheads. As selfish as their actions were, they need to be cut loose. Free up scholarships and get more dedicated guys in there.

That's a long list of people who contributed little to nothing on the field. The transfer portal just makes visible what has gone on since forever; kids get recruited, sign on the dotted line, and things don't work out as envisioned by either the player, the program, or both. Then, they leave. Used to be, they just left, but now we have a marquee upon which to put their names. It's called the transfer portal.

Yawn

I thought that Mark might have redshirted. But his prospects at OU weren't great. He was playing behind freshmen. It would seem that there is a defensive personnel house cleaning going on. I counted 82 returning guys plus recruits, when I went through the roster Tuesday, but I wasn't counting him, so I guess that made 83. Back to 82.

And as has been speculated, likely a few more.

Plaino, do you think this opens up any additional recruits signing in February (not including Grimes)?

It could. But I don't think anybody who hasn't already signed, is going to be a factor. I think a bigger possibility is other team's guys who are waiting til may to enter the portal, like Hurts did.

But it seems that we're going to have a body shortage this spring.

Hurts enrolled at Oklahoma last January, so I don't follow what you're saying about waiting til may to enter the portal...

You re right. Brain fart. But there are others who move during the summer. My point, made poorly, is that the best hs guys, you'd be starting too late on, to get signed in less than a month.

If they've been choosing between two or three schools, and OU wasn't one of them because of assumed numbers, hard to turn most.

Now last year, De'Arman was one of those guys. I don't remember any sites mentioning him through Feb 1. Then he signed. But how did that work out?

Boulware mentored Hunnicutt, Siebert and Brkic as solid kickers. And most of OU's kickoffs in recent years have not been returned (touch backs).
He was also involved in the recruitment and development of Perine, Mixon, Anderson, Brooks and Sermon.
In 2013-14 he mentored Blake Bell as a TE.
His special teams scored 9 touchdowns, a safety and 3 returned PAT's for two points.
OU's fake FG vs O-State in 2014 was a game winning play.

I thought Mark Jackson played pretty well in 2018 but after Mike got the axe, Mark disappeared off the field. I thought he was a better option than John Michael Terry, but the young guys who came in when Terry got hurt were better than both.

As for the portal, it is now part of college football. It won't affect us anymore than anybody else.

Gundy ws the key recruiter for Mixon, Perine and Anderson. As far as kickers go if a D1A kicker doesnt reach the endzone then he shouldnt be a D1A kicker, that has to do more with strength and conditioning coach. Saying special teams were awful may be a bit much, but it only takes a few bad plays to ruin it all. Clemsons fake punt to a D-lineman, scrib kick against Georgia, giving them a chance to kick the field goal. Just about every KOR was ran out getting tackled inside the 20, very few fair catches. CD returning punts most the time it was him doing his thing with the ball in his hand. Give special teams to Beamer,

Beamer or someone yet to be determined will do a good job, as Boulware did.
OU's main issue these days is defense, not special teams.

I have it on good authority that Trey Sermon was on the verge of transferring because of his disdain for Boulware. Boulware was told to find another job. Good riddance.
Boulware has been at OU since 2013 and I haven't heard of anything against him, only good things. Was he the "villain" according to your "good authority" ?

Does anyone actually think he would have taken a lateral move for OU's rival on his on? He was graciously asked to find a new job. He did. He was below average at best at recruiting. Riley desired/wants/needs a recruiting staff. The transfer portal tells us this. And since he's headed to the Horns I hope he sucks at his job.

Back during the summer I remember posting a vid of Grinch on the field coaching up the players cracking off the line, "You getting better or getting by?" Repeatedly. Over & Over again...
it appears that some are now 'getting gone'.

I like it.

My info is not recent. Goes back to Sermon's first year, after which he considered leaving. I am not in a position to reveal my source. I will say This, Sermon apparently learned to live with the situation.
