I can feel the mounting pressure on Brent going into this 2023 season. He has to win. With going to the SEC in 24 it is very important that OU shows massive improvement in 2023. Not saying anything we all dont already know but damn, imagine dropping an 6-6 or 7-5 record this year. I think Brent can do it, but a losing record or even a couple games above .500 and the hand wrenching and pacing the floors will get very loud and uncomfortable. If I can break a sweat just thinking about it, then Brent must be in hell lol!!!

I am for Oklahoma Sooner football so I’m rooting real hard for Brent but I’m not going to be taken in with all the rah rah that comes with the coaching philosophy Brent brought back with him. He needs to come “coco with the grapeo”. Brent must show us something more this year in order to have any success next year.

Patience seems to be missing here when discussing Venables.
If the easy schedule this season that everyone talks about is true, there should be improvement as far was the win/lost record goes.
But improvement is much more than number of wins. It has to be for OU football now.
That said, I believe Venables is capable of turning things around now that he knows his team better and with two excellent recruiting hauls in hand…. and another year away from Riley’s poaching and Riley’s inability to recruit and coach defensively.
And let’s forget the Texas game last year. It was an anomaly. Playing without a quarterback, OU had no chance to even score. And Kirby Smart or Nick Saban. could not have made a difference.

CT, I’m with you, but in those close games we have to win at least half of them. We didn’t do that last season….losing 4 games by 3 points. That’s got to improve this year. All I’m saying is that is what I will be watching.

Bama, we simply were not a good team, especially by OU standards. Bad teams lose close games.
But consider that OU almost beat a 10-3 Florida State team that prevented a “winning” record. Once again, Riley’s defense raised its ugly head again to lose that game even with OU’s offensive mistakes.

I understand but I’m waiting to see more from Brent on the sidelines. Last year reminded me of Gary Gibbs waaay too much. We’ll see how it goes this year. Year two generally is an improvement. Boomer!

It will be a 9 maybe 10-win season. Being a coach in north Texas area, we visit Oklahoma a lot of the years in the spring. The coaching staff is greatly improved over what Riley had. You can tell that the kids have bought in and will run through a brick wall for their position coach. OU has always had talent, but it wasn't coached properly, they say hard work beat talent when talent doesnt work hard. These kids are working and want to win, not only for themselves but for their coaches and for OU. I too want to see BV being more vocal on the sidelines, hes all over the place in practice and has no problem ripping into a kid there.

I'm juiced. This season can't get started soon enough.

Consider this:
In 2021 OU won ten games, yet barely beat a 2-10 Tulane team, a 3-9 Nebraska team, a 6-7 West Virginia team, a 5-7 Texas team, a 3-7 TCU team, a 2-10 Kansas Team and a 7-6 Texas Tech team and lost two games to a 12-2 Baylor team and a 12-2 OSU team.
And these ten wins were with the Rattler-Williams combination until after the Texas game.....then it was all Williams down the stretch.
Had OU not had Williams, Riley may have finished his OU gig with mediocre record in 2021.
In my view, the 10-win 2021 Sooners were a flawed team and Riley's poaching and some transfers after his exit weakened the team even more.
10 wins is normally the sign of a very good team, but not the 2021 OU team, if anyone here watched each game.
Venables inherited a program in disarray and last season was graphic proof.
But his solid recruiting just months after he became coach was nothing short of phenomenal and it has continued.... not to the Alabama/Georgia level.... but at least a step in that direction.

well whatever happens, BV is going to be the coach this year AND our first year in the SEC. No way would OU fire a coach the year before we make that move.

Saw where Venables said recently that he can see a lot of progress now to last year. Something along the lines of you know it when you see it and he see's it. I believe him, I think we had some lazy Coaches and Players left over from TBOW and with solid recruiting and working these guys it has to be better, where could it go but up?
That being said I believe in Brent and hope he can get it done, nobody pulling for him as much as I am and hope he gets it done, I believe he will. Just going to save my praise until after I see it.
Make teams scared to play OU again. Punch em in the mouth and show them why we are Champ U. Hopefully all that sissy crap left when TBOW did.

I don't need to tell this group that not only did he need to change the roster, but also the entire culture at OU. That culture has been changed. Dramatically. BV has set in place a culture that will win games. It started with his coaches. These dudes know how to recruit. And 70% of the roster/players have been changed. There is no doubt in my mind that OU will win more games this year.

It'll be interesting to see/watch how successful BV will be in the SEC. But this coming season will show a drastic improvement.

I'm calling it now. OUr defense is gonna bring back "sooner magic" and we very well could have two 1000 yd rushers. Take it to the bank. 😁

With what appears to be an easy schedule and with really only one challenging game (Texas), predicting a winning season or a season of ten wins, is not that hard. I can't see more than three losses.
If Venables' words have traction with the players, it will go a long way in prepping OU to play SEC-style football. The way this will be best revealed is the game with Texas.

Definitely. Been doing it long enough that I don't worry about the small stuff. I've been blessed in many ways and on many levels. Have a great day!
Good for you big boy, keep not worrying about the small stuff yet taking the time out of your day to worry about my post.. that adds up

I know we have heard it all before with TBOW's " We're close" bs but I tend to believe Brent's word more (until proven otherwise) than that proven liar TBOW.
I do think we will see improvement over last year but how much remains to be seen. I am in the don't tell me show me section these days and then I will believe it. It's fast approaching, 40 something days I believe they said a few days ago. I am ready!
