In his lates press conference he was asked about the OC search and specifically Dan Mullens. This is what he said below.

Later, Venables was asked directly about former Florida and Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen and if the job was Mullen's if he wanted it.

"I'm not going to comment about the details of the search," Venables said. "I reached out to him a year ago."

Makes me wonder now if SL was his only option at that point.

This below was also reported by someone over at DB. However Teddy Lehman seems to think Mullens is still going to be the new OC.

On KREF yesterday, they interviewed some blogger (forget which one) who was in Tulsa to cover their game. He managed to get a little convo with Mullen. He asked him about the OU OC position, and Mullen reacted strongly, saying something along the lines of "I'm not an OC, I'm a Head Coach. Ask me about HC positions, not OC ones".

Here is one last article on Mullens and BV. I tend to agree with this person that I highly doubt Mullens would be interested after turning it down last season. As the article says, he has his eyes on being a HC again.

If you had to pick would you want to be a head coach or an OC? Duh. But which job is open for you, Mullens?
You would think if he was sought after he would already be a HC sgain somewhere. Maybe he has been offered somewhere but believes that program is beneath him. I sure haven’t heard his name associated with any of the past openings in recent years.

We didn't know he was offered the OC job before Littrell was given the job either. I doubt he was at the top of BV list, who else turned it down?
I have always wanted to know such things in Coaching but we never will know those things. I say move on from Mullen, he obviously wants a HC gig again and has let it be known. Probably being picky about it too as he likely only will get one more shot at a P5 School.

This from the Oklahoman Newspaper

“Brennan Marion is an intriguing up-and-comer who has UNLV’s offense rolling.

Marion's name was brought up when OU was in search of a new play caller last season. Jacob Davis of AllHogs reported the Sooners inquired about him last November when he was also a finalist for the San Diego State head coaching gig.

At 37, Marion has helped UNLV average 426.2 yards per game entering this weekend. Marion spent a season working as a passing game coordinator under Steve Sarkisian at Texas.

Marion attended the University of Tulsa, where he played football.”

And yet they passed on him for SL. Makes my head hurt.
