Mack Brown's 5-7 record in 2010 shocked the college football world. No one saw that coming. Some believe Mack's new time consuming commitment to LHN may have contributed.

9 wins. Don't knock it. They get rings for 9 wins at UT.

So, the Whorns have received those rings in TWO of the last nine years?
I'm guessing they will get First Runner Up rings this year - The best Runner Up in the conference.

5-7 & 6-7 seem to be texass lucky numbers.
They did it 4 times in the last 9 years

A strong and competitive Texas program.....dominated by Oklahoma....is my personal perfect scenario for the future.
I will say this, this season was a scenario where having a strong Texass team benefited OU. Losing in the Cotton Bowl to a solid Texass team didn't hurt OU in the polls all that much. If Texass had endured another 4 or 5 win season, then OU gets more of a knock for that loss. And prolly doesn't get in over Georgia or Ohio State.

I was talking about this year. Who cares about Texas now

Sorry man. I took it out of context. As for me, I can’t say I care about Texas, but I sure am interested in how they fare against UGA. Should be fun to watch.

After the way their fan base acted before and after the Championship game I hope they get drilled.Herman not helping OU at all after,It showed the guy for what he truly is.We are fortunate we have have had high character coaches in the last 20 years. In other words opposite of Herman.

Texas has a great legacy, like it or not. Its legacy has a lot to do with Oklahoma's great legacy.

Some teams with "legacy" seem to never get it back and may not ever. Look at Nebraska and Tennessee and Miami. Do you see any chance that they will ever be elite teams again? I don't.

The best Texas has done in the last nine seasons is a four loss team and in 4 of the last 9 seasons they had losing seasons including one under Mack Brown. Three of the last 5 seasons texas had losing records. In the 2 Herman led teams they already have had 10 losses and it could be 11 losses if Georgia beats them. How long do you think Lincoln Riley would last at OU with Coach Herman's two year W/L record and losing to a lowly Maryland team two years in a row?
Texas has always had players who think they are entitled. and vs. OU Herman has them playing thug ball cheating by trying to hurt OU players. Early in the game the texas defensive back tackled Hollywood by twisting his facemask trying to hurt his neck.

I think eventually USC will be back & possible Florida State but who knows about UCLA.
Michigan showed that they're overrated this season getting stomped by Ohio State and they have not done much in the last 10 years or so (maybe even longer)... I cannot remember Michigan at the end of a season being in a national championship game since the 1980s and I think it was against us..

Legacies tend be how one interprets and regards history.
Army vs Oklahoma this year was labeled by many as a match up of "two storied programs" even though Army's great legacy goes back 65 years.
As for Tennessee, Miami, Nebraska, UCLA and Texas, history has shown that teams that are in a current down cycle can come back to prominence quickly.....remember Oklahoma in 1999 after a decade of futility ? At that time, I could only hope that the fallout from the 1989 probation would end and I wondered if I would ever see OU return as a perennial powerhouse. 2000 wiped that slate clean. I was reborn.
Younger generations care nothing or very little about history, sports related or otherwise. Geezers like me tend to acknowledge the past....the "good old days".
Legacies today seem to be interpreted as a "what-have-you-done-lately" scenario....almost as if to say "if it didn't happen in my lifetime and/or the past decade, it didn't happen".
The five teams mentioned earlier, as far as I'm concerned, have legacies that will live on.

Ya thats one of the games I would like to see. I think Georgia is much better though. Really hard to root for either one of them

I hope Georgia gets ripped by the media for running up the score on Texas.

What I find in the demise of texas is how amazing it was that Mack Brown their longtime successful head coach went from being in the National Championship game in 2009
to a 5-7 record in 2010 and they have been very average or below in the following 8 years with three more 7 loss seasons & a 6 loss season and nothing better than a 4 loss season

Its not recruiting as Texas has had several top recruiting classes.

I think the mindset at Texas is flawed with pampered entitled players

Their present head coach I think is a loser promoting thug ball football to physically hurt their opponents. He reminds me of the former Baylor head coach Art Briles who had and encouraged a team of lawbreakers and thugs.
This is Coach Herman's mentality and I think he fails like Briles and he will eventually get fired also,

UT's inability to attract great QB talent has a lot to do with its mediocrity since 2009.
Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas A & M, OU and several out of state teams seem to have more appeal to QB's from Texas high schools.
Colt McCoy and Vince Young seem like another lifetime ago.

Could this have anything to do with the aura of "mangina" surrounding UT and Austin the last several years. It's like the people there are more into yoga, soccer and Panera Bread rather than manly pursuits such as college football. Sheesh, I bet you can't even buy bacon in that town anymore.

Some teams can’t recruit quarterbacks. Others can’t recruit linebackers.
Don’t think it’s due to “mangina”.

Gilbert being a total bust is what doomed Texass after the National Title game. Then Texass suffered for years trying to find a quality starting QB.
Gilbert came off the bench vs Alabama when McCoy went down and he had very little experience as a true freshman. He led a mini rally in the game but Alabama was too much to overcome. Mack’s play calling didn’t help either.
