Stoops

If he gets on the field it won't be due to his superior talent. There were some impressive young receivers out their today. Mims is the best. Hazelwood is a force that will improve each game.

He might not have the natural athleticism that those guys have, but he has the surest hands on the team. He made a bunch of clutch catches that extended drives last year. His play has earned him playing time, not his last name.

Drake is like “the cat that won’t die”. He just keeps coming back, making big plays. The kind of player that every good team must have. He would play more if it were up to me. My bet is he will make a really good coach one day.
Good description. He's a white possession type receiver who reminds me of the Oilers' Mike Renfro in the Bum Phillips era. Not a deep threat, but catches passes in traffic and runs good routes. He had many huge moments last year and will again this year if OU gets its offensive act together.

Two huge catches and a key block on the difference making drive. Natural athletic ability and talent aren't necessarily synonymous. Talent is the ability to consistently produce desired results. Drake is as talented as anyone on the team.
That block he made was awesome. I'm sure the guy outweighed him by at least 50 lbs. and he laid him on his b-hind. Bet dad was proud of that one.

It’s a general observation.

Drake Stoops has won me over. Gritty with great hands...and knows how to block. Not much reason he should not be on field more.
He had a strike against him before he ever stepped on the field as a Sooner. He has obviously worked hard to overcome being the son of Bob and has shown he has real talent.

No doubt about it. Drake has skills and smarts. While his name might not be in LR's marquee lights, he's the kinda player who will contribute to this teams success. These players are what make the game enjoyable to me.

Drake is filling the athletic character traits vacated by Hunter Renfrow.
Ha.....so blacks are just genetically more physically gifted? Jimmy the Greek says hello
Have you ever posed that question to a black athlete? Most of them will agree with CTOkie. My African colleagues tell me this genetic trait is a product of trying to outrun big cats in the wild for thousands of years. When was the last time a white guy won the 100 meter gold in the Olympics? Allen Wells in 1980 when the USA and most of Africa did not compete. Borzov of Russia is considered the last great white sprinter that won 100 and 200 in 1972.

lol for a minute there I thought you was joking, but I think you must have been serious. So are white people genetically smarter since they do much better in school and in academic settings? Are whites just genetically better pole vaulters since there has never been a great black one?

I'm just like you, better at posing these questions then answering them. I have no explanation or take no position on why one group does better than another. I do have personal experience with extreme exceptions to social stigmas such as high levels of intelligence when their educational environment did not support their advanced intelligence. Does the fact that there are no black pole vaulters support the opinion that whites are better at that sport? Maybe we can assume that pole vaulting does not lead to financial gains and football players have a higher desire to achieve financially. Does this leads us to assume football players are more greedy than pole vaulters? I said nothing about genetics. You did.

When Stoops and his brother got the preferred walk-on deal I thought ok what is this. Drake Stoops has turned out to be a player and he may have the best hands on the team? Hard to say because he may only catch 1 or 2 a game but he's been pretty clutch as an all around player.

ummm did you not just talk about genetics of Africans? You did. Personally, I believe that blacks excel in football, basketball, etc. because its much more emphasized than academics. Its part of culture that they play football and make it to the NFL. I don't believe any race has a genetic advantage in either sports or academics.

They run faster and jump higher. We had a black guy on my hs basketball team who could touch the top of the backboard while I couldn’t dunk if my life depended on it. And black guys love to tease the white guys about it, at least they did on my team. And I guarantee some of those blue chip 5 stars have needled Drake for being slow and white. And in turn he has a chip on his shoulder, which enables him to succeed. Plus dads DNA doesn’t hurt either.

He may not be the biggest player on the field but he busts his A$$ and isn't afraid to take a hit or give one.

How do you explain the fact that east Africans are superior in long distance running than people from other parts of the world? Are Kenyans not genetically more suited to the task? That's not to say that others cannot compete with Kenyans as distance runners but as a group it's hard to not come to this conclusion. Do you think the Dinka tribe (tallest) would make better basketball players than the Mbuti (shortest)? Are our genetic differences not a biological fact? Let's remove race and take a genetic example. West Africans are bigger and stronger genetically than East Africans. Given the same level of education do you think a West African would not be better at football and an East African better at distance running? So you believe if the education was leveled and balanced between races then we would not see a difference in athletic ability?

You are uninformed about distance running my friend. There was a time not so long ago when the Scandinavians ruled the track in distance events and the Africans were not all that competitive. As a matter of fact, the current star in the mile, 3000, and 5000 is WHITE from Norway. Like most things, it goes in cycles. Not sure why, but it does. The Japanese are famous for success in the marathon. Is it because the genetically superior for that distance? Hardly. Its just really emphasized in their country much like track is emphasized in parts of Africa.

It has not been that long ago that African nations did not compete in international events. I am informed about distance runners. Emil Zapotek, Billy Mills, Kip Keino and many others. I actually ran in several marathons in my youth. Saudi Arabia (3), Singapore (2), Dublin and Houston (2). What is a star in a distance if he is not the record holder? The 5000 meter record is held by a Ugandan and the 3000 by a Kenyan. The 1500 is held by a Moroccan. 12 of the last 16 world record holders in the 5000 meters were from Africa from 1972 until now. Japanese women have done well in marathon but not the men. A Japanese won the Tokyo Marathon in 2010. Kenya and Ethiopia won that last 10.
