"I’m sure all of us are taking a beating right now," (Riley) said to a small group of reporters Wednesday morning. "That’s the good thing, is people can say it, but I don’t have to listen to it. That’s part of how it goes."

"Mike is a really good coach," Riley said. "I have a lot of confidence in him as I do our whole staff. To do what this staff and this program did this year with all the changes and all that, it’s unprecedented. People better remember that too."

Wow. Are we sure that wasn't Bob Stoops speaking? That sounded awfully combative and dismissive of the fans.
Incorrect comments? No. Necessary comments? Absolutely not. I say let a coach treat media as he/she likes, but show some class when referring to your fans... you know, the only reason you have this job.

I am still holding on to a sliver of hope Coach is protecting his people and Mike is lining up a job (exit strategy) at a new place?

Hate to say it but MS isn't going anywhere. As long as Bob Stoops has anything to do with OU......it's not going to happen. We would have to go back to the 90's to see any change.....and no one wants that at this point.

I can't find one instance of him speaking to the press after the game. Maybe he needs some of this.

With Mike as Defensive coordinator .... the highest you can hope for is Big 12 Championship. You can forget anything higher than that.

Riley is only doing what most coaches do in these situations and that is defer the critisism as if fans dont have a clue about the coaching side of things. However he might want to choose his words a little more better as its not a good thing to attack the very fans that support him.

He is young and i get that but he has been around long enough to know that our fan base has long grown tired of these crappy defenses and it could be what ultimately cost him his job at some point down the line if he doesnt address the problem. If he ever wants to truely win a NC then surely he is aware that it will not happen with the current DC.

Its been time for a new DC for quite a few years now. Rileys history at OU will be defined not only by wins and losses but his williness to make the changes needed to get OU back to the top in CFB. He needs to make that statement now in my opinion and do whats needed to be done for quite some time.

Does LR want to BET his future, his FAMILIES future and of course OU future on Mike Stoops? Is there one program out their that WANTS Mike Stoops for their Defensive Coordinator?

Is Mike Stoops regarded as a good or even decent Defensive Coordinator, Recruiter, adjustment guy? Do any of his peers, think he's any good or average?

I know there has been a lot of coaching shakeups, the last 2 years. Not ONE school has come calling for Mike Stoops. His name hasn't come up ONCE. Not Once!

That's ALL anyone needs to know and I don't think LR, is a blind idiot. He's young and has a chance to put his mark on College Football. Does he bet EVERYONES future on Mike Stoops?

Would anyone bet their future on Mike Stoops?

Well thats probably why Mike is not resigning. He doesn't wanna let go of that fat pay check because he knows he could never get another one.

I never know what to make of coach-speak statements like this. Maybe Lincoln believes this or not. Maybe he's saying this for the reasons everyone seems to think or other reasons. But you can't really be an HC and publicly badmouth one of your coaches and expect to go get another great assistant coach can you? Maybe Mike Stoops isn't doing a great job but he has been loyal to OU right? As pointed out by someone else maybe he's being enabled to exit gracefully or maybe there's not an available candidate for DC that Riley is interested in at the moment.

Riley evidently inherited more than just a coaching job from Bob Stoops.

I just returned from Pasadena and have been thinking about the game...probably too much... Regarding MS....here's what it boils down to..
1.) Georgia scored pretty much at will in the 3rd QTR...
2.) Poor Tackling has been a trademark of this defense
3.) Coach says....Plan was good, players didn't execute...WELL MS who recruits players who can't execute?
4.) Georgia literally shutdown the best offense in America....They made adjustments and had the players to execute on the fly!

Bonus thought....A. Siebert - my stomach biols anytime he is in the game...you never have a feeling he's going to pull thru... I guess that is why the student section crosses their fingers when he kicks!! Kick the figgin ball out of bounds....they have the ball on the 35 and we win the figgin game geez!!!

I feel better now...thanks for the ear..

After hearing this, this is NOT Riley's team yet. He does NOT have the political power to make changes to this program as of yet. But the guy is very, very sharp. I think his plan is to bide his time, earn his respect and make strides internally with board of regents, the new Pres, and finally the boosters. He came into this HC job under strange and differing circumstances than most HC changes. I think he pulls it off and is successful in the long run. His resume' continues to grow in the coaching community.
