NORMAN, Okla. — The No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners softball team is absolutely on fire this 2025 season, now boasting an impressive 12-0 record after a fantastic 8-1 win against Wichita State at Love’s Field! With catcher Isabela Emerling shining brightly and pitcher Sam Landry achieving a significant milestone, OU truly displayed their incredible talent and resilience in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. What an exciting start to the season!
Emerling, a highly anticipated transfer for the Sooners, faced some early challenges this season with a .120 batting average and a tough 0-for-14 streak. However, she truly shined against the Shockers! In the bottom of the second, she launched a thrilling solo home run to the deepest part of the park, giving OU a much-needed boost. Almost hitting another home run in the fourth, she instead grabbed an RBI double off the wall, bringing in Nelly McEnroe-Marinas. With three out of her five hits this season being home runs, Emerling's impressive power surge is an exciting sign of her potential to turn the season around for our team! “Getting to Love’s Field feels good,” Emerling said after the game. “I just needed to settle in and trust the process.”
Emerling certainly lit up the scoreboard, but let’s not forget the incredible performance from Sam Landry! The senior right-hander achieved a remarkable milestone with her 500th career strikeout, a testament to her hard work at both Louisiana and OU. She dominated the game with 10 strikeouts over 5.1 innings, allowing only three hits—her only setback being a solo home run in the fifth. Securing her third win of the season, Landry’s impressive 40 strikeouts in just 26 innings emphasize her vital role in OU’s pitching lineup. What an exciting season it’s shaping up to be!
Freshman Audrey Lowry wrapped up the game beautifully, securing the final four outs in her thrilling debut at Love’s Field and solidifying the Sooners’ impressive victory!OU tacked on insurance runs in the fifth, highlighted by Ailana Agbayani’s single and Tia Milloy’s RBI double, pushing the lead to 8-1. Head coach Patty Gasso praised her team’s relentless approach. “I love how they’re growing,” Gasso said. “This group keeps pushing to get better every day.”
The Sooners’ perfect record stands as a testament to their talent and resilience, with Emerling’s resurgence and Landry’s milestone adding to the momentum. Up next, OU looks to keep rolling as they prepare for their next challenge at Love’s Field.
