Sooners sign #1 QB for 2021

We need our defensive recruiting get on pace with the offensive recruiting. Then we can build on things solidly. Heck often 3 star guys play lights out. We need Bookie the 5 star to step things up....not stating obvious.

It appears that the legacies of Mayfield and Murray have given Riley's recruiting the highest level of leverage in bringing in QB's for the future. Hurts' addition is a nice "cherry on top", even for just one season.
While Mayfield and Murray were prevented from winning national championships due to their teams' defensive shortcomings, they were, in my opinion, the two best quarterbacks in OU history. High school quarterbacks from coast to coast are aware of this.
What happens after 2020 with Mordecai, Rattler and Vandagriff will be very interesting.
What Heisman winners Mayfield and Murray did on the field these past 4 seasons could be surpassed by what their influence will be on OU's future offensive recruiting.

2021 our great offensive recruits this year (2019) will be in there jr year and more than likely heading to NFL. He (Brock) will sit behind or split time with Rattler for one year.

the kid will only be a junior this year right? Means nothing. These kids change schools frequently

Naw... the kid loves him some Riley. He'll stick unless Riley leaves. On a different note, the Home/Away series w/ Georgia just got more interesting. The Bulldogs travel to Norman in 2023.
Plus OU isn’t done recruiting in GA. WS

lol you guys are actually going to have faith in a 16 yr old kid that commits before his junior year? Not saying it can't happen, but I wouldn't count on it

It’s not a sure thing with a non-binding commitment outside of OU’s tradition recruiting area, but it’s clear Vandagriff likes OU. Now Riley has to fend off the teams from Dixie...for the next 19 months.

I could be mistaken, but didn't Rattler commit around the same point in time during his time in high school?

Mr. Unabomb the thread with negativity...more like “unabitch”.

Yes, Rattler committed on 6/27/17, long before the 2019 signing day.
But that still doesn't change the fact that early commitments, especially from players in the deep South surround by SEC teams and Clemson, can sometimes be a gamble.
Somehow though, I feel fairly certain that Vandagriff will stay with OU. A program that churns out back-to-back Heisman winners taken as the top draft pick the last two years, is quite a recruiting ploy for Riley.
While there may be a potential log jam at QB in 2021 with Mordecai, Rattler and Vandagriff around, it's definitely a "problem" any coach would welcome.

Vandagriff is a 2021 guy. He won't be here next year. Rattler will be in his 3rd year when Vandagriff gets on campus.

As long as Hurts and Rattler have solid numbers and win games, I think he sticks with his commitment. Esp if OU makes a deep run in the playoffs the next two years.

I'll be very surprised if he doesn't keep his commitment. Why wouldn't the best QB in the country not want to attend OU? Back to back Heisman's and back to back #1 picks in the draft. Lincoln Riley is a tremendous offensive coach, and the QB's he has had have all improved since Coach Riley started coaching them. Now we just need to sign some more defensive players.

Tansooner i think he has a point. While I think he will stick with OU, it would be naive of us to assume it can't happen especially where he is located. I'll believe it when he signs on the dotted line

I guess it was just the way he went about it more than anything. Acting like those that don't think like him are devoid of intelligence. I think it will be tough based on where he's from and the fact he is #1, but I would be much more concerned about holding onto his commitment if he were the #1 LB in the country.

If it were any other position, I would be skeptical. Given that Lincoln is the recruiter and will personally be developing the player, I think it is a lock. Just like Rattler, he has a relationship with Lincoln that will only get better and he know that Lincoln is the man to develop him.

calm down tan. I was simply stating the obvious. I'm not putting any faith in any high schooler until his name is on the dotted line.

I agree with your sentiment 99% of the time. There was one thing that stuck out to me though in his interview (@ about the 1:30 mark below) that makes me think that this kid just might be in that 1%, that being when he said that he didn't like the recruiting process & was glad to get it over with. Those flip floppers you're referring to don't usually say something like that.

coach riley will build/is building his 2021 class around this kid for a reason. read the comments and i think you'll see why riley is going to stake a year's worth of talent on this young man to be the magnet every great class needs to elevate it to a special level. wait and see maybe, but i'm fine with that because i believe he'll still be there on signing day.

Well obviously I hope he will stick to his commitment. I personally just don't put a lot of stock into these very early commitments. Too many wishy washy kids today and other programs are still going to come at him hard. We'll see how it goes though

My daughter's high school played Pinnacle when she was a senior and Rattler was a freshman. The two schools are different state classes but are located very close to one another in proximity. My daughter picked up the handle of "that Sooner chick" due to her wearing OU gear and driving my decked out Expedition to school in high school. There are a few places near Desert Ridge Shopping Mall that are favorites of the kids after games (mostly Pinnacle HS). At the time she told me that some kid that was not even a starter approached her after the game and told her he was going to school at OU on a football scholarship. This tells us that OU had their eye on this guy from an early point of his development.
