Tuscaloosa, AL – The Oklahoma Sooners defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide 6-5 on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Sewell-Thomas Stadium, thanks to a clutch two-run ninth inning and a gutsy performance from closer Dylan Crooks. Trailing 4-2 entering the seventh, Alabama mounted a comeback to tie the game. Still, Oklahoma’s late surge and Crooks’ final strikeout of Will Plattner with two guys in scoring position sealed the victory. The win evens the series at 1-1, keeping the Sooners’ momentum alive after a tough Game 1 loss, while Alabama’s hopes of bolstering their resume took a hit.

The game unfolded as a pitcher’s duel early, with Oklahoma jumping ahead 1-0 in the first on Dayton Tockey’s RBI single. Sam Christiansen’s solo homer in the second and Jaxon Willits’ sacrifice fly in the third stretched the Sooners’ lead to 3-0. Alabama responded with solo shots from Richie Bonomolo Jr. in the third and a Staton RBI single in the fourth, narrowing the gap to 3-2. The Crimson Tide’s bats woke up in the seventh, capitalizing on a throwing error by Oklahoma reliever Jason Bodin to tie it at 4-4, setting the stage for a dramatic finish. Oklahoma broke through in the ninth when Trey Gambill’s sac fly and Easton Carmichael’s RBI single plated two runs, giving the Sooners a 6-4 edge.

Alabama fought back in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases against Crooks. After a walk to Justin Lebron—who battled through an 11-pitch at-bat—and an RBI groundout from Snell cut the lead to 6-5, Crooks buckled down. With runners in scoring position, he struck out Plattner looking on a full-count pitch, silencing the crowd of 4,062 and securing the win.

Key Stats: Oklahoma outhit Alabama 9-8, with Christiansen (2-for-4, HR, RBI) and Gambill (2-for-3, RBI) leading the charge. Alabama’s Bonomolo Jr. went 1-for-4 with a homer, while starter Bobby Alcock threw 6 innings, allowing 4 runs. Cade Crossland had a big day, tossing 6 innings (season-high) of 2-run ball with 7 strikeouts (season-high).

The atmosphere remained electric despite a slightly smaller crowd than Game 1, with fans on edge through the late-inning twists. Lebron, playing through a taped wrist after a Game 1 injury, looked healthy and contributed a double and a stolen base.

What’s Next: The series concludes tomorrow, March 30, with Game 3 in Tuscaloosa. Oklahoma aims to claim the series, while Alabama looks to rebound and strengthen their resume this far into the season.
