Spoke to three-star defensive end Wyatt Gilmore at length this evening. The Minnesota native plans to OV with Oklahoma in June, and it seems the Sooners are primarily doing battle with Miami and Oregon here. OU made a very strong impression on Gilmore and his family at the spring game, and with the Sooners holding a lead for Williams Nwaneri and Kellen Lindstrom at the moment, the third edge spot in this class looks like it'll come down to Gilmore and Loghan Thomas if current trends hold. Obviously, neither Nwaneri nor Lindstrom is a done deal, but I have confidence in Oklahoma at this juncture with the pair of Missourian defensive ends.

Gilmore grew up a Miami fan, but that doesn't seem to have given the Hurricanes a significant leg up here. It's still too early to peg a clear leader in his recruitment right now. That said, the fact that he returned to Oklahoma less than four weeks after his initial visit in late March speaks to his level of interest in OU. Miguel Chavis and the Sooners are a real player for the state of Minnesota's No. 4 prospect, and will have a chance to jump out in front next month when Gilmore takes his official.

In sum, though the Sooners don't lead outright just yet, Oklahoma has as good of a shot as anybody for Gilmore right now. What's more is that OU is likely to be the only SEC school on his shortlist.
