Oh, I disagree with that. Paige 1 was a little sluggish yesterday, and Paige 2 gave a much better performance. If Parker starts, I'm not sure we don't get beat two or three in regulation. Lowary also helps some with their slapper running game. Those girls are fast.
I thought it was a brilliant move. And I didn't have confidence that Parker would get Lorenz out. That fly ball double ended up in a perfect place. I hate it that they were playing that deep. But I remember an identical situation in game 6 of the Rangers WSeries against the Cardinals in a nearly identical situation. If the Rangers had been playing their outfield to almost the warning track, they'd have won the World Series. But Cruz couldn't find the wall in a park he almost never plays in, and they tied the game because the outfield wasn't far enough back.
It's only wrong if it doesn't work.
I wouldn't play them that deep. But Patty damn sure has earned the right to play them back there. With a 3-2, 2 out pitch and a hitter without previous power shown, I'd think in 10 feet from there would be better. But that's hind sight.
Florida had not lost a game this year when scoring two or more runs. That's how good their pitching has been. And this thing ain't close to over. But that was a game for the ages. I don't recall seeing many softball games on ESPN Classic, but that one will be.
Epic as a description gets used too often when talking about a sporting event. But that game was epic. And the grit that it took to keep going out there as the visiting team, knowing that when you didn't score, that you had to get them out twice to even have a chance is because Patty does the right things and coaches the right way.
I really need to sleep, but it won't be coming for a while. That was amazing.
