Softball: Sooners win game one 7-5 in 17 innings..

WHAT IS YOUR IDEA .....

You play 17 innings of hard fighting ..... and lose the game. You're tired and all for nothing.

So what is the psychological effect on Florida to go this many innings and lose?

I expect Florida will pitch Ocasio Tuesday night. We'll see. She was a great pitcher a couple of years ago, before become mostly a 3rd baseman this year. Tomorrow just depends on pitching. My guess, is that Lopez starts and Parker is in relief if it's late. If Mariah can't give them four plus, then they go to Mendes and save the Paige's for game three. We'll see.

It seems like every move Gasso has made tonight has backfired.

Oh, I disagree with that. Paige 1 was a little sluggish yesterday, and Paige 2 gave a much better performance. If Parker starts, I'm not sure we don't get beat two or three in regulation. Lowary also helps some with their slapper running game. Those girls are fast.

I thought it was a brilliant move. And I didn't have confidence that Parker would get Lorenz out. That fly ball double ended up in a perfect place. I hate it that they were playing that deep. But I remember an identical situation in game 6 of the Rangers WSeries against the Cardinals in a nearly identical situation. If the Rangers had been playing their outfield to almost the warning track, they'd have won the World Series. But Cruz couldn't find the wall in a park he almost never plays in, and they tied the game because the outfield wasn't far enough back.

It's only wrong if it doesn't work.

I wouldn't play them that deep. But Patty damn sure has earned the right to play them back there. With a 3-2, 2 out pitch and a hitter without previous power shown, I'd think in 10 feet from there would be better. But that's hind sight.

Florida had not lost a game this year when scoring two or more runs. That's how good their pitching has been. And this thing ain't close to over. But that was a game for the ages. I don't recall seeing many softball games on ESPN Classic, but that one will be.

Epic as a description gets used too often when talking about a sporting event. But that game was epic. And the grit that it took to keep going out there as the visiting team, knowing that when you didn't score, that you had to get them out twice to even have a chance is because Patty does the right things and coaches the right way.

I really need to sleep, but it won't be coming for a while. That was amazing.

No doubt this game was epic and even though I don't like Florida in anything that team showed great heart. In the bottom of the 17th I thought to myself "Here we go again" but thankfully Paige got the big K. This Oklahoma team also showed so much heart that they deserve all the praise they get. The question is will this team get any praise from ESPN considering that their darling team lost game 1. I remember heading into this game those women on the softball show all but crowned UF as champions saying "it was their to lose". In the eyes of those ESPN folks this would be a massive upset in the WCWS if OU is able to win it. Here is hoping that they do exactly that tomorrow evening and shut those SEC ESPN talking heads up.

Every team is different. But true champions don't allow losses like last night to deter them. They know it's not over and winning 2 in a row is very possible. True champions dig down deep and rise to the occasion.

Yep. This ain't over. You play one at a time, and leave everything else out. And both teams know how to do this.

I won't be surprised to see Paige 2 start again tonight. She has the hottest stuff to quiet the Gator bats, it appears to me. Maybe Lopez does, I just can't recall. Plaino, how many pitchers can play, leave and re-enter if needed ?
