It's a happier place here since the Bama win, but before that I kept seeing these threads say over and over how Seth Littrell was a "lazy hire" which would indicate that a reasonable head coach would have been able to see that he was ill prepare to be an OC at OU. He needed to go, and he definitely didn't get it done here. But this idea that he was some bum who only got hired because he played on the 2000 title team is complete and utter BS.
Here's the facts.............
Littrell was OC at Arizona in the Pac 12 for 2 years- In 2010 they finished 24th in the country in total offense. In 2011, they were 16th.
From 2012 through 2013 he was OC at Indiana- They were 35 in total offence in 2012, and 10th in 2013.
From 2014 to 2015 he was OC at North Carolina- They were 48th in 2014 and 18th in 2015.
Then he was HC at North Texas for 2016 through 2022. In 2016 they were in the 90's for total offense (12th from last on the ESPN list I'm looking at) IN 2017 they were 24th. IN 2018 they were 20th, in 2020 they were 8th. So that's 3 top 25 offenses in 5 years at the Mighty Mean Green.
Bottom line, Seth Littrell had a hell of a good track record. His teams got better year over year and he produced as an OC in the PAC, the Big 10 and the ACC. Then as a head coach fielded a top 10 offense in a place that's tough to recruit too and hard to win at.
He didn't work out and I think the decision to let him go was one we had to make. But this Lazy hire/friends and family plan narrative about that hire doesn't synch with reality. He unfortunately couldn't get it done here. But there was nothing in his past that would make you believe that would be the case.
