How important is it to have your safeties be great tacklers? Would you rather have your safeties be bad tacklers or bad in coverage? I'm almost to the point where I think you put your 5 best cover guys in the secondary and deal with the tackling issues. Especially in the big 12.
The reason I say this is because the OU safeties were not good cover guys last year at all. If they aren't much better I'd just as soon replace them with guys that can cover. It sounds like Sanchez, Evans and Parker can can all cover. Maybe the Byrd and Thomas can too but I didn't see much or it last year and it sounds to me like Mbanasor and Haughton are really good cover guys. I may be simplifying things too much. Maybe the schemes are too tough for true freshman to be able to play safeties in this defense? I'm not sure. I just know that if you don't have guys that can cover vs TCU and Baylor throughout the entire secondary, you will get lit up.
