So, I’m having trouble understanding what the 85 to 105 limit means with how OU is handling the roster. If you get an additional 20 scholarships but have to limit the overall number to 105, conventional wisdom would say you’re trimming your roster from mostly walk ons - the guys on the lowest end. But we’ve seen a ton of guys get in the portal from the middle portion of the roster who were depth guys or developmental pieces and have been told it’s largely due to the new roster limit. This doesn’t really make sense to me.
In the case of Mykel Patterson McDonald, how is he worth a scholarship at 85 but not worth a scholarship when you have 105? The way BDs story makes it sound, he’s been moved to a PWO, but will those even exist under the new rules? Any insight you guys can provide would be much appreciated
