Have been reading several articles on recruiting. I have listed one article below that summarizes what I have read. Although there are many factors the lead to a player's commitment, 66% of player commits believe coaching is the primary factor in their decision and 33% believe that it is the recruiting process itself. Of course, coaching not only involves relationship with the players, but also the quality and reputation of the coaches. Recruiting involves more than honesty, integrity, and personality of the coaches. It involves many of the things that recruits, themselves, often say is not really a determining factor by itself: living accommodations, facilities, nearness to home, uniforms, feeling wanted by program, mom and dad's feelings toward a program, etc.
I don't have any insight into how the players, or their parents, respond to Bob and his coaches. I don't know the impression they leave with the kids. However, if we (uninformed) fans can't see the quality and/or reputation of a particular coach, I not sure the recruits can either. If we aren't doing enough recruiting on a daily basis with each of the kids, their enthusiasm for the program will wane quickly. Bob made some serious choices about our coaching staff last year and they worked. Maybe more choices need to be made to ensure that we are giving all of the 99% needed to get recruits to sign on the dotted line.
