OU vs West Virginia

Refs can make or break this for either team. Very close game. Neither of our leading scorer's are factors right now

Spangler just had to hit 1 free throw to put the game away and couldn't do it. He air balled the second one. Almost a miracle finish by Buddy

You are correct. If Spangler makes just one free throw we win.

True. But he was also screwed into the floor when they called a block on him with under two minutes left, and then no called the pretty obvious block on the big guy from WVU on James' last drive. Great play call by Lon. But the stripes swallowed their whistles.

WVU ticky tack fouls you all night and then whines when it gets called.

But honestly, I'm not unhappy that we lost. Playing Kansas with our lack of depth on back to back to Back days wouldn't have been pretty. We're better off for when it really counts next weekend, watching tomorrow.

Let's be honest. In tournament play you guys will be bad. We were lucky not to be upset but our players will get up for KU.

Let's be honest. In tournament play, OU will be rested from not playing an extra game that means nothing in terms of seeding. You were lucky to not be upset.

Did you hate basketball when you grew up? Back when men were men and played physical? Now, basketball has turned into a foul shooting contest, all in the name of "more points, we need more points". It's a watered down product, just like the NFL too. NFL is anti-defense with all of these new rules. Because we need more points, gotta keep the fantasy sports relevant. It explains why hockey and soccer are not big in America. Now if you made a goal worth 7 points like a touchdown, perhaps Americans would get behind it. It also explains why media and MLB really wants to add DH to the National League which is madness and should be forbidden. But pitchers batting aren't fun, when you can add another power bat to hit homeruns. Takes away the strategy element of baseball but hey, there will be more homeruns. Why not just legalize PEDs? It was fun when Sosa, Bonds, McGwire, etc were all chasing homerun records..........

Could you imagine Steph Curry going up against the likes of Michael Jordan or even young Kobe? He would have bullied off the court. It was a man's sport, it's now a boy's sport. NBA is all softies now. Only few physical players left from that great era and they are about to retire including one this year aka Kobe and Kevin Garnett will be next.

It's hard to beat the same team twice, much less thrice, and even more so when it's the quality of West Virginia.

I'm just peachy with where we're at heading into the dance. A 3rd dog fight with Kansas wasn't going to be a miracle cure for our ailments.

What? Know when to say when.

Refs could have called 40 fouls on WVU. So many pushes, holds and hacks. OU certainly didn't play well, but that was a very poorly refed game.

Would have liked a shot at KU, but I'll take the #2 seed in the tourney. Hoping OU gets the #2 in the bracket where Xavier gets the #3. Lunarid's current draw has just that, and a flalling Iowa team at the #6. Would be a nice path. Elite 8 or bust!

When all else fails, blame the refs. lol.

I like that the refs "let 'em play." We have no room to complain as there were calls/no-calls that went both ways. They just smothered us with that press defense. Plain and simple. Expect everyone to double up on Buddy and/or play the press (but not as good as WVU) when we get to the dance.

Actually, I spent three decades officiating basketball including everything from men's rec leagues to two decades of high school basketball. So your complaint or accusation is a little hollow. You view of basketball ruined the game. It wasn't until both the NBA and the NCAA decided to quit letting thugs with few skills but lots of intimidation win with little skill, did the game become a better game.

I've heard nothing but positives spoken about the this season's implementation of allowing offensive players to move without being held and mugged all over the court. It's not just because OU had a group of seniors that were pretty good this season, that I would say that the college game was as good as it's been in a while.

You might find the Pistons' title teams and the Georgetown teams of the early 80's to be good basketball teams and something to emulate. I think you'd be in a pretty small minority. I've been wrong before.

If you don't like watching Steph Curry be amazing, then that's your prerogative. Some of us prefer wow moments that don't include players emptying benches to fight.

I like Steph Curry, mostly because he is a great man off the court. He is exciting to watch. But with that said, he wouldn't be doing what he's doing in the 80s, 90s, etc. I always bring up MJ because he gets overlooked for his defense. Everyone talks about his offense numbers. Kobe is another one who was a great 2-way player. Those teams would demolish this current GW team.

It reminds me of 2012 Olympics when people were trying to compare that team to the Dream Team. The Dream Team would have ran the 2012 team off the court.

I agree about the Dream Team comparisons, but it wasn't about Jordan so much. That was the last hurrah for Magic and Bird, and those guys in their prime were the great changers of the NBA and basketball. It was about the team for them and making the perfect pass that led to a bucket was their game.

One wonders what Bird might have scored for a pretty average Indiana State team that he led to the NCAA finals, if there had been a three point line in 1979. And I'm not sure how either of those guys would have fared against Russell or Chamberlain. I don't know if you're one of those guys who considers Jordan the greatest. If so, you might be in the majority, but they'd be wrong. Bill Russell changed the game more than Bird or Magic or Jordan.

Including his junior and senior year at USF, Russell's teams won 13 titles in 15 years, and one of the two his team didn't win, he got hurt and missed the championship round. In other words, twice as many as Jordan. And he played the best post defense ever, without beating anybody up. He did it with unbelievable athleticism and being one of the smartest players ever. Maybe in any sport.

Twice as many titles as Jordan, or Bird or Magic. Mull on that a little.

I never said MJ was greatest defensive player of all-time. I only used him as an example to compare the physical basketball era to the cupcake basketball era since he was one of the greats that I grew up watching. I was born in late 80s. You named other players like Bird. Guess what? They weren't soft either. They were tough players.

NBA had a great product. It's now trash because of how finesse the game is. I guess some people love that. I do not. I wish I was around to watch the Steel Curtain. NFL has turned into trash too.
