OU is #1, OU beats baby st, WVU up next

It could happen, but it won't be easy. I think the Sooners will take care of Okie Lite tonight in the Stool, but then they've got to get ready for a sky-high 15-1 WVU team. Huggins always gives OU a tough time and they can play some really good D, so the game in Norman on Saturday is going to be a slugfest!

WVU gonna be a tough one. Hoping that win over Kansas was a just home town fluke with referee assist. The refs called Kansas for something like 32 fouls. Kansas out shot them 41% to 33% from the field and from 3pt land Kansas was 50% 10/20 and WVU 25% at 3/12 but Kansas had 22 turnovers to WVU 11... WVU spent the last three minutes at the free throw line (47 attempts for the game) Lets hope our boys play them smart and we get a better officiating crew.

Surely those stats can't be right! 47 free throw attempts?!

Holy crap! I don't think I've ever seen that many free throw attempts in a game before.

We're not #1 unless we beat West Virginia.

Even if we beat West Virginia, we're not guaranteed #1. They could move the #3 team ahead of us if they had a more signature win this week.

Good win over OSU. A win by two counts the same as a win by 32 in the long run. Do we play West Virginia there or at "The Nob"?

The Sooners are wilting in second halves against teams they ought to beat without much sweat.

I believe at this point in the season, that Lon has some crucial decisions to make. He might have to sacrifice a game or two. If he doesn't give some of his bench players some serious playing time, and cut Buddy's and Woodard's and Spangler's time down under 33 minutes, they are going to be dead-legged at the most important time of the season. That triple OT game is still a factor, especially with most of those guys going over 50 minutes.

They've had a bad break. They've needed Manyang to grow in his contributions. Instead, his illness has caused a falling back some, and his fundamentals are the opposite of solid.

Saturday might be an embarrassment. West Virginia is going to make them play nine guys, and six, seven, eight and nine are going to need to play more minutes than they've played in any game this year that wasn't a blowout.

Buddy had ten turnovers against OSU, and over half of them were totally unforced. He is still running on fumes and it's shown in the last two second halves. And the third OT in Lawrence. If Lon doesn't make some playing time rotation adjustments, he's going to be jockey of a spent horse in March.

I don't think fatigue is that much of a factor in college. These are young kids with boundless energy playing only 2 40-minute games a week and about 30 games in the season.

They aren't 30 year olds playing 3 48-minute games a week and 82+ in a season. (that's almost twice as much game time a week if you don't want to do the math)

Micco - the #3 team (Maryland) lost also. OU will get pounded by a far lesser team due to turnovers. Hield had 10 solo turnovers against Okie St. Blowing a 16 point lead to win by 2 is a sure sign of a lack of team organization. Cousins has been shooting poorly lately. Limit shots from beyond the arc.

Was not aware. Thanks for the update. My main point was that it's still up to the voter's and not a guaranteed move up to the #1 position. Especially if we look very bad in our last two games.

If we're so dangerously close to being a "not so good team", then my first point is made. If we're a team that will lose to lesser teams because we turn over the ball too much, and have a lack of team organization, I wouldn't think we even deserve to be #1.

Absolutely....what I've been concerned about..."experienced" depth.

If I'm not mistaken OU had 12 turnovers in the 2nd half. We were up by 12 at half and was outscored by 10 points in the second half to win by 2 and if the ball had been two inches lower on the backboard we would have lost by 1. Very poor second half team the last few games. I fully agree with Plaino's observations. We are not a fresh team and make mental mistakes.

OU has a great, if not the best starting 5, in the conference. WVU has the best 10-12 players in the conference. A lot of good players but not one great player. They force a lot of turnovers and wear you down. We will have to get, decent bench play or they will, pull away in the 2nd half.

As an old basketball player myself, I know the need for a break, some rest from time to time. It's true that OU needs some additional bench help so that everyone doesn't get simply worn out... Maybe Coach Kruger could have a team strategy meeting where they decide to indeed sacrifice not just a few but many games down the stretch to get the top five healthy and rested...

Maybe if OU went into the tournament as a team that had lost quite a few and was seeded a little lower would it make any difference? Who cares who the Sooners play in the round of 16 as long as they are rested and ready to play?

I used to say just lose in the first round of the Big 12 tourney and rest. Now, maybe it's better to relax totally, not care about the W-L record after 14 or 15 wins and just use the rest of the regular season to prep for the NCAAs... The 1 seed really isn't that different than the 8 seed...

While I understand what you are saying about having to play your best against the best to advance deep in March, I think it's important for ou to get the 1 seed and home court advantage in okc. Perhaps in one or both of those first two games, we will be able to rest some key players for the final push.
