So, this seems to be a “thing” now: NFTs or “non-fungible tokens”. Fungible? Is that a real word? Anyway, can someone explain in layman’s terms what it is and the benefits for someone selling and someone buying NFTs?
Recently an Iowa BB player become the first college athlete to sell a NFT. But, the article does a poor job of explaining exactly what it is and what someone who wins the auction gets out of the NFT.
Also saw another story about the little girl smirking in front of the burning house meme “disaster girl” sold her meme as a NFT for $500,000!!!

What, if anything, does this all mean for us common folk? TIA if we can get an actual, understandable explanation.
