OT...the Pope is a funny fellow

Someone needs to slip the motorcade drivers an extra few hundred bucks and deliver the guy back to his jet a few days early.

Better yet, bring him to the Oklahoma State Fair to hit the stage with Trump on Friday. I'd love to hear Trump tell him, "Lighten up Francis".

I hope you're joking, but why send him home early? I think it's pretty cool he's in the U.S. this week and I hope the POTUS and members of Congress are paying attention when he addresses them.

No comment about Trump.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why all the snarky comments about the Pope from the far right? I guess I'm in the minority here, but as a (non-practicing) Catholic, I think he's doing the right thing for the Catholic Church and for many others around the world and is spreading the word of peace. What's not to like about him?

The Pope wants us to stop using air conditioning. He wasn't joking.

Air conditioning is one of the little things he hates about the USA and our way of life. No need to go into the bigger issues. If you don't know what he stands for, you probably don't care to begin with. There is no reason to discuss it.

If you do know what he stands for, and it doesn't bother you, likewise.... there is no reason to discuss it.

Eh, blame the press.

Way too much coverage for a guy that puts his britches on one leg at a time like the rest of us.

If that is what you believe, that the Pope "hates the USA," then yes, there is no room for a discussion. Let's just stick to Sooner football.

The same could be said of Jesus.

Nah. In Jesus' time, when the government tax collectors gouged the people, He over turned their tables and kicked butt. With righteous indignation, He despised big government who over-burdened the people, not a liberal, wealth-redistributing, over-spending socialist.

"If you will be perfect, go and sell that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven.....".

The government takes a small 45% of my earnings. (The context is Socialism, correct? Or are we talking about charity now?)

I went to the Vatican last Sept. almost a year ago to this date. I was very impressed with the building, structures, paintings, etc. And was so surprised at how large of an empire the Vatican is. It amazed me. The behind the scenes and hidden doors of politics of this empire is massive and most believe corrupt.

BTW, if we sealed our borders like Vatican City has sealed theirs with huge, giant walls, illegal immigration could be stopped.

Here's a trivia question. Who guards the Vatican?

"If you will be perfect, go and sell that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven.....".

That was the prescription to deal with one man. And you left out part of the quote. The most important part. Their prior discussion was about how to get to heaven. And you have to be perfect to get there. But you cannot be. It's not possible. The only way to get there, is through faith in the One who IS perfect.

Jesus told the young rich man, you'd have to keep all the commandments. And the you man said I have kept them all. Jesus knew that wasn't true. So Jesus starts listing them. And the young man said, "all of them I have kept. What do I still lack?" Then comes the full quote:

Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go sell your possessions and give to the poor, Then come, follow me.”

This man's heart was that his possessions were more important to him. And he hadn't been listening to the teachings of Christ. Which were, believe in who I AM. What does he say at the end. It's harder for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven, than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle. And the disciples asked, "who then can be saved?"

Then comes the crux. The set up in the quote is that you cannot earn your way to heaven. As Christ tells them. "With man, this is impossible. But with God, (Him) all things are possible."

If you think that the only way for a rich man to enter heaven is to sell all he has, then you missed the point.

The same thing about Jesus being a socialist. We are to be generous. And we are to give priority to the poor. And we are to pay even unfair taxes. But doing all or few of these things is not how anyone gets to heaven. And he says that, repeatedly.

When one of the rich pharisees comes to him at night (apparently to avoid being seen by his fellow pharisees), Jesus doesn't tell him to sell all he had to follow Him. He tells him that he must be born again. And explains how. And then why too many won't. The core of the gospel: John 3:16.

Is the Vatican an Evil Organization?
With over a Billion adherents and growing, the Catholic Church is an immensely powerful institution. As an organization that claims to represent God and do good, it has tremendous potential to create positive change. Yet, the Catholic Church has a long history of supporting evil and continues to cause tremendous suffering while doing little real good.

Mass Delusion

Catholics choose to selectively ignore the many past and present sins of the church. They ignore the fact that so many priests are child molesters and that church policy not only enabled abuse of children but consistently protected and even rewarded pedophile priests.

Catholics ignore the fact that the catholic ban on birth control has ensured that tens of millions of unwanted children live unimaginable lives of deprivation and grow up (those that survive) to prey upon the societies that forsake them.

The millions of preventable cases of AIDS caused by Vatican policy of avoiding condoms also goes ignored.

Catholics ignore the financial scandals, the fact that the church supported the Nazi's and other other fascists and helped smuggle the worst war criminals to safety from justice. They ignore the unforgivable crimes of the holy inquisitors and the fact that the Catholic Church invented some of the most heinous forms of torture that could never be anything but evil.

Catholics never mention their genocide committed against the peoples of the 'new world'. Books by priests who have witnessed the satanic ceremonies inside the vatican also go ignored. Catholics choose to ignore the fact that much of church doctrine not only has no biblical basis but actually goes against the bible that they claim as the word of God.

"Then I heard the LORD say to the other men, "Follow him through the city and kill everyone whose forehead is not marked. Show no mercy; have no pity! Kill them all – old and young, girls and women and little children. But do not touch anyone with the mark. Begin your task right here at the Temple." So they began by killing the seventy leaders. "Defile the Temple!" the LORD commanded. "Fill its courtyards with the bodies of those you kill! Go!" So they went throughout the city and did as they were told." (Ezekiel 9:5-7 NLT) Anyone who is captured will be run through with a sword. Their little children will be dashed to death right before their eyes. Their homes will be sacked and their wives raped by the attacking hordes. For I will stir up the Medes against Babylon, and no amount of silver or gold will buy them off. The attacking armies will shoot down the young people with arrows. They will have no mercy on helpless babies and will show no compassion for the children. (Isaiah 13:15-18 NLT)

Be that as it may.
No where in the Bible does it state you shall die if you don't join my team. Like in the Koran.

Nice try though.

BTW, I'm done here. I'm not casting my pearls before swine.

1) Suppose there are prophets among you, or those who have dreams about the future, and they promise you signs or miracles, and the predicted signs or miracles take place. If the prophets then say, 'Come, let us worship the gods of foreign nations,' do not listen to them. The LORD your God is testing you to see if you love him with all your heart and soul. Serve only the LORD your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him. The false prophets or dreamers who try to lead you astray must be put to death, for they encourage rebellion against the LORD your God, who brought you out of slavery in the land of Egypt. Since they try to keep you from following the LORD your God, you must execute them to remove the evil from among you.(Deuteronomy 13:1-5 NLT)

1)If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you. You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB

You know, you're really embarrassing yourself.
Those are Christians being murdered by Islamic extremist in Syria, et al by Isis. You can spew forth all the antiquated verses you want.
That is happening now, in real time.

Cling to your beliefs, such as they are, and I'll respect that.
For that you will respect mine, whether you like it or not.
