OT: The dead guy formerly known as Prince

Not something I'd ever thought about, but I've never owned or played a song by Prince. I must've missed out according to media. There were too many other types of musical pleasures that I gravitated to.

I get that too.
I suppose I've always preferred the blues based rock stuff and less of the Pop genre.

As a player, I have to respect all musicians for all the hours toiling alone, practicing, etc, and to reach the level that he did is not easy.

The man was one of the best performers I've ever seen, period. Amid the countless boring, sterile Superbowl halftime shows I've seen and forgotten, the show he put on in 2007 was pretty damn magical and one I'll never forget. RIP.

When I read that Prince suffered from stage fright and needed opioid to perfrom, I immediately thought of the song "Stagefight" by The Band.

I've got fire water right on my breath
And the doctor warned me I might catch a death
Said, "You can make it in your disguise
Just never show the fear that's in your eyes"

See the man with the stage fright
Just standin' up there to give it all his might
He got caught in the spotlight
But when we get to the end
He wants to start all over again

Now if he says that he's afraid
Take him at his word
And for the price that the poor boy has paid
He gets to sing just like a bird

Your brow is sweatin' and your mouth gets dry
Fancy people go driftin' by
The moment of truth is right at hand
Just one more nightmare you can stand

See the man with the stage fright...

Where did you read that? I've never heard that before that he needed opioids to help overcome stage fright. I've read the opposite and that he lived a pretty clean life.

22, Thanks for sharing the link.

I'm having a hard time buying in to "Doctor D's" story and think in the coming days, weeks, months and even years later, we'll read stories about him, like this one, which will mostly be untrue.

I hear ya. Back in to 1800's, snake oil salesmen epitomized the perfect example of a liar. Then in the 1900's, it was the used car salesman. Now in this amoral society, anybody who says anything on the Internet is suspect.
