Spurrier gold...
NORMAN – Bob Stoops spoke fondly of retired head ball coach Steve Spurrier after Oklahoma’s practice Wednesday, as you might imagine. I love this story from their first scrimmage together at Florida...

“I walked out there my first scrimmage, and he had Reidel Anthony one side, Ike Hilliard on the other side, Jacquez Green in the slot, Fred Taylor at running back, and Danny Wuerffel, the Heisman Trophy winner, at quarterback. Ooooh my gosh. He went up and down the field on me.

“He said to me, after about the fourth or fifth touchdown, he says, ‘Bobby, we gonna be able to force a punt this year?’ Honest to God.

“And then true to him, we come in the locker room afterward and we’re getting showered up. He says, ‘Hey, Bobby, don’t worry about it. You’re not gonna see anybody like us.’ And he was right. We didn’t.”
