Not a lawyer, but was in a high school play, "12 angry men", but we only had six guys on our jury...so we had to be twice as angry.
LOL I'm past the days of wannabe rock star drug addict. Been off the crack since 2007 and never drink more than two beers. Last beer I had was in October. Besides, I have my own LLC and a few DBA's under that. It's amazing what one can do when nobody will hire them.

I don't know if this is still the case, but when I went to jail, we could only call landlines. What a bitch when you only know cell numbers.... plus we rely on our phonebooks so much these days.

Ever been to prison? Do you know how things get done in them?
I've been and I know. Guards often belong to gangs or can be bought by them. How does one smoke 5 cigs a day in a non smoking prison? What about cell phones? Somebody brings the shit in there. Whether it is a guard or not, who strip searches the inmate after a contact visit? And how did they not notice an inmate shoving a cellophane covered cell phone up his ass during visitation? Oh, it must of been teleported in... because the guards are saints...
For all we know, a guard could've been paid off to let that guy get killed. It happens more than you think. I've watched many an ass whipping take place while guards placed bets on the outcome. And I was fortunate, I was in the laid back units...

Haha. Not me. I was in a 50 man dorm in one unit where the unit "queen" was. Had boobs and fought like a girl. Kicked a few peoples asses as well. Was said that she was a swallower, but I never saw any of it. She definitely watched who was in the shower a lot. It was that same unit where I watched a quiet, mind his own business type guy get called out by 4 gangsters... He laid all of them out in some of the baddest martial arts I'd ever scene in person.
Two days later he was in the hospital with broken ribs and broken jaw. He was asleep in his top bunk when the gang bangers beat him with soap sox while others had strapped him in with sheets. Within a week, after outside recreation, 10 guys from other dorms came in our dorm and beat the crap out of the two leaders of the assault. They hadn't followed "family" rules it was said. They both left in ambulances. I was always approached to join different gangs, never did, never will.
Every prison I went to in Texas, I was called out within a week or so. You go fight. You kick someone's ass. They kick yours. You lose count. It doesn't matter the outcome. You do it because you ain't anybody's bitch. Win or lose, you fight, because when you don't, you are somebody's property. It is what it is. Life in there isn't much of a life at all. It was a lot worse for those who were owned. It goes with them everywhere. If Texas Syndicate or Mexican Mafia owns you at this unit, they own you in all of them. Getting transferred doesn't change it for them. Inmates move in Texas units every 18-24 months. Scared pups think they are free when they get moved. They get to a new unit and try to join AB or White Knights to get out of being owned. That makes it worse for them. TS will beat them while allowing AB to as well. They go to the hospital. They are extorted like a whore by a pimp, minus the sexual favors. Although I'm sure that happens in the rougher units...
My advice... Don't go unless you are visiting someone. Then go as often as you can. It is good for them.
Just read the report. The PCA, stated that both inmates were seen on video, entering their cell. The video showed no one else going in. They found the victims blood on LP. They found the victims blood on LP clothes. They found they victims blood, inside LP sheets. So unless a ghost got into a locked, video monitored cell. LP killed the guy. They have three different angles of video. No they do not have video inside the cell but they have three cameras outside of it. The DA and the Warden, looked at the evidence and brought charges against LP. Was it manslaughter, self defense or murder? I do not know.
There you go. None of us know. While a warden's job is not one for many, there are many a warden who should not have that job. Ever sit in a cell with a convicted murderer? What if...
A prison that holds 2400 is now housing over 4000. You are LP, an immediate target because of who you are. You get housed with a gangbanger serving 80+ for murder. He tells you it's you or him, what to do, what to do....

Unlike probably most here, I actually do a ton of work with inner city youth. I've been a "big brother" just about every chance I've gotten when I've had the time and money since I was in my early 20's. I donate time every couple of weeks to run a first tee program here in Houston that is designed specifically for inner city youth and the much less fortunate... many of those living in group homes. I don't have much, but I give what I can (time) and do what I can. I see these kids making amazing choices and refusing to let things get them down.
As for the question above, if the kid doesn't know right from wrong then you need to get them some very serious help. If he is that mentally challenged, then he needs to be taken care of by professionals.
You didn't answer the question. He does know right from wrong. Considering his background and circumstances I described, does he have an excuse?

The guy was a product of his upbringing, his environment, the way he was treated. I suppose you're the type that would bully someone to the point of being so angry, so distraught that they harmed or killed someone, or themselves, and then wash your hands of it saying it's on them, they knew right from wrong. Everyone's breaking point is different, but everyone's has a breaking point. Maybe if we focus on stopping the abuse of each other this kind of stuff would decrease.

Lol, my joint is no different than anywhere else. Staff get walked out from time to time for bringing crap into the prison. And it's incredibly the lengths inmates will go to get things inside the fence. But pretty much everything else you describe about prison life is right on the money. Luckily, my joint isn't all that bad. But the higher level ones are rough as shit. I never worked TDC like you were in. No rehab, prison or even shock therapy will alter their behavior.
The only thing one can do is a radical lobotomy...then you've got a veg that you have to house and feed until they die. Kind of pricey.

BR has to work with them at his job. Plaino has been a coach, umpire/ref for youth sports probably his whole adult life. 4623 fosters some of them. There are many here who donate their time and money to helping others. That's all good.
But since you do so much more, go and pat yourself on the back and remind yourself that what you did for one of those kids, might make it possible for you to not feel the need to piss on him when he dies. Maybe the difference YOU make in their life will be why they get shot while working during an armed robbery instead of robbing someone themselves. They are inner city thugs after all, aren't they?
