OT: Prohibition over?

True story. In the early 2000's, I worked for a company that told it's maintenance workers to expect random drug testing to begin. 30% of the staff told the company "GFY", and quit. Among this 30% were the top journeymen with the most years of service. Two weeks of hell passed where machines weren't getting fix. They begged them all to come back with a pay raise and no drug testing.

Yeah, that last place I was at, they toyed with random testing.
They already had it in place if you injured yourself, or someone else, or damaged anything exceeding 500 bucks. Automatic.
The union president told management he might want to rethink the computer generated random testing.
Management ask why.
Union guy told him that if everyone was tested right now, 60% would fail.

It was never brought up again.

Here's one for you... In 1997, I was in charge of several large repair facilities. I had a terminated employee (a troubled individual) call me to tell me that he witnessed my Shop Mgr, Shop Foreman and two Shop supervisor's smoke weed on New Year's Eve. He told me that if I did not take action that he'd go to the press and report it. I called HR who in turn got Legal involved. Legal said that I could not just test these 4 guys and that if I did test, that needed to test the entire shop, or 53 employees. HR concurred & encouraged me to do so. But I didn't want to succumb to his threats and I had some great long time employees, many nearing retirement. To test them would have been foolish and also embarassing for them. We had never tested before. So, I chose to ignore his threat. I called his bluff and never heard from him again. Sometimes you just have to do the right thing and hope for the best.

Unfortunately, in today's world, that troubled, terminated employee, I would consider to be a serious threat and a candidate for the type to return with a gun. Today's a different world than even in 1997.

I can't personally say I know any productive people that smoke weed. I know a lot of losers who do.

Of course there is no way to prove otherwise, but you'd be surprised that some around your circles of friends, co-workers etc smoke weed. You might detect it if they were high, but you'd never even know it if they weren't. On the other hand, I have personally terminated some and have witnessed many people that couldn't handle their liquor, to the point they couldn't get to work on time and/or call off sick constantly.

Yep, I went to my lawyers Christmas party in the early seventies. (Friday night)
About forty or so lawyers and their significant others in attendance. I couldn't believe it.
Joints, bongs, a few lines of toot here and there also.
All around an enclosed, kidney shaped swimming pool.
It was a hell of a party. He even had a professional chef cooking up steaks to compliment the jumbo shrimp appetizer and Perrier Jouet.
As I understand it, it didn't end until Sunday afternoon.

Nota is right, there's a whole underground of closet indulgers doing it everyday.

They just do it in moderation so as not to affect their work and or vocation.
Ganga use and success in life aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. (Just ask Steven King for example)

I know I'm not good at explaining on forums. I'll try this a different way Yankee. Teens could never fool the parents you think. Some parents do buy the test or tests at CVS.
I think we have a national epidemic of cannabis users. That was the real reason for Jade Helm. Marshal law and mass drug testing is in place. When is the question.
Or they may just legalize it.

Once I smoked a turkey. On another occasion, I smoked a brisket. Each time in front of the family and neighbors without regard to any potential side effects.

Could I become addicted? Did I set a bad example? Now I'm worried about passing a drug test.

I don't disagree with you about liquor wnas. I personally don't see how either one can be a good thing.

wnas why do you always attempt to defend marijuana use by noting the evils of alcohol? Seems like you are trying to justify one by citing the evils of the other. As I've told you before, you can't justify one bad behavior with another.

I don't really care what you've told me. As I don't believe you have a clue to anything regarding weed. It shows. But mainly I discuss alcohol in regards to weed because alcohol is a drug. And many forget or ignore the fact that this drug is state sponsored, state approved, and state taxed drug. Yet alcohol is kills more people, destroys more lives than weed does. Whether you like it or accept it. The two go hand in hand when discussing drugs.

Why do you always speak of weed as evil and never discuss the issues of alcohol?

If you would read you would see that I agreed with you in regards to alcohol. Its just as dangerous as weed. So that means since its legal that we should also legalize another intoxicant? That makes no sense

you and yankee and the most ignorant brain dead idiot's that's ever been on this board, you have no idea what your talking about.

Last try Yankee and barking answer a question. How in the world do you know who uses and who doesn't? Simple question you keep calling users idiots. How do you identify these idiots. By looks interaction with them or what. You deal with people a lot of the time who use herb. You have no clue. If I was going to judge everyone by something I don't like, I would be wasting a lot of time. Please explain your ability to identify idiots that use. On top of that a lot of idiots got that way without cannabis.
I bet bomb doesn't smoke.

Moses once again(I've already answered once) I know plenty of people who openly smoke weed as well as others who have been charged with possession, etc. The majority are idiots and losers. Does that mean every single one of them? No. Look no further actionthan this thread for proof of my accusation

There are a tremendous amount of things, concepts, ideas, and laws that make no sense.

If I get caught possessing or smoking pot or driving with a buzz from drinking, I'll lose my carry license and I will call myself the world's biggest idiot. It isn't worth it. That goes for at-home use too. One never knows the unforeseen circumstances that will put a guy behind the steering wheel.

Newspaper, ok jail birds, acquaintances, etc. I also worked in the juvenile justice system for years and I'd say at least 95% of the offenders had a marijuana problem and couldn't pass a drug test to save their lives. Its also illegal in the vast majority of states so these upstanding citizens you are talking about are routinely breaking the law. That enough for ya?

Yep, one has to factor in all that you value into the equation.

I have 9 or 10 guns, haven't done an inventory lately...at any rate, I'd never risk forfeiting them over something as inconsequential as pot.

I really believe that society is headed toward a seminal crap hole.
I'll survive longer with the guns than losing myself in a cannabis induced fog.

To each their own. But if your view of the world is thug life on a daily basis, you unfortunately have a skewed view.

If the world goes down a seminal crap hole, the last thing I'll be concerned when I'm shooting at a sh%thead is if I have my permit on me. :D

I tried to give you some stats several months ago from a credible source but you refused to look at them.

Yep. There is not much you personally can say or do that would change my opinions on any & all subject matter. To be sincere and honest, and with all due respect, I don't find you as credible on anything.

lol I take that as a compliment coming from a person that breaks the law on a regular basis.

You have good folks and bad folks in every walk of society. Some use the wrong criteria to judge them.
Austin is a frightening place to live. We have so many gays and herb smokers on the streets. I try not to go out during the day but never go out at night.

Yep, that was the way it was in 1968.

I can't believe it's gone all Norman Rockwell since then...
