This is sad news. Some ladies I work with were really upset about this.
OU professor found dead (Norman Transcript)
Owen Kulemeka, an assistant professor of public relations at OU, was found dead in his apartment early on Tuesday morning.
Although a cause of death has not been formally identified, Kulemeka appears to have succumbed to complications from heat stroke sometime over last weekend, according to a Gaylord College press release. He was 38 years old.
Colleagues of Kulemeka found his body on Tuesday when, unable to reach him by phone or social media, they visited his apartment to check on him, according to the release.
Gaylord graduate Katie Roberts said Kulemeka was one of the most well-known and beloved professors in the college.
"Everybody knew him," Roberts said. "His classes always seemed to fill up the fastest."
Kulemeka was born in Malawi, Africa, and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Maryland at College Park and a Ph. D from the University of Illinois of Urbana-Champaign.
"I had four or five classes with him," Roberts said. "After the first class, I arranged my entire schedule around his teaching schedule...Some teachers have their own styles and his really clicked with me."
Plans have not yet been made for a memorial service
