I am currently in a graduate program and have had a mentor that is one of my professors giving me business advice that I pursued him to get and information that he stated was his sole opinion and not that of the University. The University has told him that he is no longer allowed to give business advice because of the legal implications to the University. I see this as his right Academic Freedom right and don't see how the University could have any negative ramifications from a professor giving his opinion especially when he stated it was his opinion. Does the University have the right to try and shut this mentoring relationship down or are they infringing upon his academic freedom any advice would be very helpful.
