https://www.oklahoman.com/story/spo...yn-dodger-don-demeter-dies-age-86/8812818002/Don Demeter, who played 11 seasons in the major leagues and was one of the few remaining Brooklyn Dodgers still living, died Monday night. He was 86 years old.
For those that don't know, Don was a member of the Dodgers' first World Series championship team in LA. I had the honor of talking with Don a few times. He was such a nice guy and very cool to talk to. Talking baseball with him and hearing stories about Drysdale, Koufax, Snider, and Pee Wee Reese, man.... I'm a baseball guy, this still gives me chills. I was in my early 30's when I met him (probably around 10 yrs ago). The whole time I kept thinking, "Wow he's not talking about just some good players. He's talking about some of the best players to ever play the game!".
I recommend reading the article from the Oklahoman. There are some pretty good stories in there. I remember him telling me the one about Tommy Sturdivant. It's pretty funny.
