Is leave our seats empty in 2018. I’m tired of seeing his ineptness in coaching and recruiting. Recall Zona fans going through the same situation. It’s obvious that firing MS is out of Lincoln’s hands.

If Stoops is retained then it's above and beyond just him alone. It's as much on Riley and OU as it is Stoops' own inadequacies as a DC.
Riley is probably a good choice in succeeding Bob Stoops, but right now.....fairly or unfairly.....Riley's reputation and competency are on the line.

Hopefully Mike isn't back but if he is, he has to do something about his buddy that is the inside linebackers coach. Kish is horrible and our inside linebackers are playing poorly because of horrible coaching. Pretty sure I can do a better job than him and I'd do it for half his pay.

Wish we still had Venables as Def. coordinator.

Sooner fans are loyal and will fill the stadium. If someone chooses not to buy tickets because of heartburn with Mike Stoops, there is someone else waiting right behind them who will gladly lay down money to see mediocre defenses.

I think things would need to get to the John Blake level of bad football for people to stop buying season tickets.

Agree to a point, but for me personally, I feel I'm seeing OU settling in to being a good, but "also ran" program with these poor defense units wheeled out each season. Some of it is talent based, some of it is coaching based. Tackling like drag queens, failure to make clutch stops and giving up big game changing plays are a trademark to Oklahoma football in recent years.
OU made the final four in two of the past 3 seasons, but so what ? In each of the two appearances, OU was one-and-done and was clearly the weakest team of the four teams. In both games (vs Clemson and Georgia), OU's defense was overwhelmed in the 2nd half and the high flying offense was also contained in the 2nd half.
Going into the 2018 season, I don't see another final four appearance as too many key players are either graduating or leaving early for the NFL.....this includes Mayfield, Brown, Andrews, Okoronkwo, Ward, Wren, Parker, Will Johnson, Flowers, Beal, Horky and possibly Anderson.
Until this program and its coaches get serious about playing much better defense, nothing will change.

Of these players... OU will only miss those that play offense. And most likely only Mayfield & Brown

A weak defense gets weaker without Okoronkwo, Parker, Ward and Beal, regardless of how good or average they may be rated.
And true, OU will "only miss" Mayfield and Brown......but also Andrews and Flowers.
All this is assuming Anderson and Samia return.

Calcatera replaces Andrews
Miers replaces Flowers

OU has had a great HB/FB for close to a decade now. That won’t stop. Calcaterra may actually be a better receiver than Andrews although Andrews was real good in running his pass routes.

As far as the defense goes, OU has plenty of very good ball players. More are coming in the 2018 Class. Meaning nobody that is leaving will be missed.

Yeah, I figured that out....but Meier won't replace Flowers' excellence. Not by a long shot.
I expect redshirt Jeremiah Hall to be in line to start at HB/FB. Either way, Flowers was an excellent player along the lines of Millard before him and will be missed greatly.
Calcaterra is a good player but simply saying he will equal Andrews' body of work is pure speculation right now.

CT, the whole world tomorrow is speculative. I've come to accept it. I have no doubt that w/ Riley's play calling, the HF/FB, TE, and even QB will impress.

I don't think the "two butts for every one seat" still applies for season tickets these days. The ticket office have had problems filling the Santee Lounge area. My seats are in Section 4 and I have been offered an upgrade to Section 6 or 7 the past three seasons prior to the online priority upgrades. These seats now have a annual minimum donation that is considerably higher than a few years ago. I can't say for sure but if enough donors were to express discontent then the athletic office would have to take notice. but would not take much action. I have many friends that have dropped their season tickets after many years (40+years) due to the attitude of Joe C's office with regards to donations. The rise in salaries and the need for more money has altered the attitude of the AD's office.

Unfortunately, that would never happen. Probably the only thing at this point is if the big donors step up and "withhold" their donations until a change is made. Money talks.

Just asking, why do you think it is out of Lincoln's hands? I full agree MS needs to go should have been replaced at halftime in Rose Bowl.

I think what you're probably going to end up seeing the official word being "retirement" or "pursuing other opportunities". He's one of the Stoops's. Heard word from one of the guys I know on the team that Coach Riley really got into it with him multiple times in summer practice. He's got his guy in Ruffin McNeil. It seems too obvious that some sort of a change will be made. Maybe for the first time in years we might have a sense of urgency on D

If Riley retains Mike then we can no longer be mad at Mike Stoops. Riley will be held accountable if this D continues to be rated in the 80's like it has the last couple of years

Absolutely correct. I wanted Mike gone but always put the blame on Bob Stoops. You can’t blame Mike for wanting his $870k knowing he would have to take a huge cut if he left...plus losing his job security. Bob’s failure. If he stays now it will become Riley’s.
