Having not driven to Miami in well over a decade my dad and I decided we would drive down to the game because we both had a lot of time off. After hearing where the game was, my wife and daughter who never go to games also wanted to go.
First off we left the Tulsa Area on Christmas morning with the intention of stopping in Orlando for a few days so the kids could hit Universal Studios. I was pleasantly surprised that 65 out of Pine Bluff was now all four lane to Greenville Ms. Also there seems to be more Dollar General's per capita in Mississippi than anywhere I have been on earth. We decided to take our time going down and hit the Gulf Beaches starting with Pensacola. Nice warm beach weather all the way down and some beautiful beach views. I had no previous reservations for the trip down because I wasn't sure where we would be stopping but we had little problem finding nice beachfront accommodations. Having lived in the Orlando Area in the past I was prepared for the traffic and tourists but my father was not so after a day and a half in "O" Town we headed out to Cocoa Beach for a few days and I still had not seen a single other OU fan. We stopped at a Travel Plaza and I remembered to get a Sunpass (Pikepass). You can literally buy them out of a vending machine ($5) and jump on your phone with the transponder number and put money on it then throw it away when you leave Florida. Why can't Oklahoma's be that simple? Saved a TON of time as the toll lines were horrendous in Central and South Florida.
Arriving at the stadium I still had not seen one OU fan until we pulled into the stadium. We pulled in and it looked like a Home Depot convention with all the Orange. We had a blue parking pass so we bypassed the line and were escorted to a small lot right next to the stadium where 4-5 OU vehicles were parked, ALL from the state of Florida. Where the hell were the "Okies"?
Sun Life Stadium is undergoing a renovation. The seats have already been changed and next year they are erecting a canopy to cover all the seating areas. Anyway, game sucked blah blah blah and as we are leaving the stadium my phone rings and it was our hotel telling us they overbooked and we were screwed and didn't have a room. GREAT! I finally searched and got the last room withing 20 minutes of the stadium and it weren't cheap for a last minute booking. We basically booked it home Friday and Saturday. Took the family to Universal and a Manatee boat trip got some beach time and fantastic weather so the trip was not a total loss.
Lastly WHERE THE FVCK WAS EVERYBODY!!!!!!
