Official Bedlam thread.

What was said about this team before the season started, is nowhere close to what we are seeing. LOFT is always one cog in the gear, but player development and coaching are bigger ones. This team is pretty toothless on the field. I just do not get the lack of adjustments and players plodding along. Way too much football has been played to see this crap manifesting itself ever since K-State smacked us around.

A lot like last season wihout the wins. Riley would say all season that we are getting there or we are close. But there wasn't much improvement or any at all as the season progressed.
Whats the one constant in all of it? Players, Coaches, AD Leadership or lack of, Bob meddling? Not saying its any of those or not any of those so what is it? Are we jinxed? Danged if I know.

Not all, but most of the time, good coaches can produce a quality game plan for a half. But coaching being close to equal, the second half usually talent prevails. It's easier to make great adjustments if your X's are better than their O's. OUr talent is substandard right now.
It wasn't just a half. It was 3 quarters. If you think the same talent from the first quarter suddenly couldn't perform for the next three, I suggest you watch the game.

I know the last 3 quarters on offense sucked, but let's not lose track of the fact that OU won 28-13 and has averaged 35 points a game this season (not counting the UT game where Gabriel never played). OU is trending up, be patient.

Anyone else catch what looked like BV yelling at somone in what looked to me the Medical Tent? Could see a player in there but not sure who it was or what it was about.
I saw that too. Seems to be his go-to move. I guess he feels private under that tent.
When I was at the Baylor game, I saw him lunge into the tent with his playbook rolled up and cocked back ready to smack someone with it. Again, couldn't see who, but he was definitely in striking position with that playbook.

2nd QTR Grades

Gabriel - F
Lebby play Calling - F
Defense - A +.

If this offense ever played a 4 quarter game I would be shocked. Gabriel is as eractic with his passes as they come. That last INT wasnt on Stoops as the pass was behind him.
Do not disagree with you...I'm wondering, on defense at least, if it is the more physical style we play as opposed to the crap Grinch designed...seems like the first half of games the D is much more physical...

Not sure as someone with more knowledge would have to answer that. I was just happy to see the D shine in this game. They had to because the offense went into a shell after that first quarter. Not a fan of Gabriel and Lebbys lack of eating clock was ugly.

Tech has a 6-5 record like OU but has played better overall this season and has won its last two games at Kansas and home vs Iowa State.
Both OU and Texas Tech are aiming for a winning record at 7-5 rather than a 6-6 record.
That said, OU must gain its 7th win to finish the turbulent season to gain momentum not only for recruiting, the post season bowl appearance and next year, but to gain some credibility for a beleaguered (fairly or unfairly) coaching staff.
A 6-6 finish throws a turd in the old punch bowl in my opinion.

The bottom line is Lebby needs to learn to play complementary football - Pokes ran 102(!) plays and miraculously (heroically?) our D held them to 13. No one would have taken that bet. Second half should have been rushing the ball and burning clock but it was hurry-up-and-punt, putting all of the pressure on our D. Venables needs to lay into him for that BS.

Also on critical downs he needs to do less obvious calls: e.g., not Bedlam, but empty backfield on 3rd and 1 means DL just put their hands up on our short QB and sure enough tipped ball and INT (why on 3rd and 1?). Another time its wildcat on 4th and 1 with a seldom used RB this year (Majors). Both had no other options for the D to think about - no one to hand off in the first case and Majors sure as hell wasn't going to throw it in the second. Lebby needs to get smarter.
