Had a chance to attend a small gathering at the Moody ACL venue where MM was the guest host. It was a group of maybe 100-150 people there for a birthday. It was set up as a Q&A, showing a few clips from MM's various movies and him answering questions. Very thoughtful answers. Two things stuck with me: 1) He literally stayed and kept answering questions until everyone had asked what they wanted to know. I'm guessing he stayed probably at least an hour beyond his commitment. 2) Very intelligent, thoughtful. Talked openly about his family in highly relatable ways. Not aloof or arrogant in the slightest.
It befuddles me how a guy who can look like such a spectacular douche on the sidelines can be as impressive of a human being as he appeared to be in person.
So, almost against my will, I confess I'm a fan. My wife and I started watching True Detective afterwards and, man, the guy is just an incredible f'n actor.
MM's next movie is set in SE Oklahoma and I'm looking forward to watching it.
