Riley is the 3rd OU Asst to win the award. Lincoln Riley 2015
Kevin Wilson 2008
Mark Mangino 2000
No other school has that many. Auburn has had 2 win it.

OUtstanding news!! I chuckle to see Coach Wilson's name on the list though...sooooo misunderstood and under-appreciated.

OC/QB combo = Riley/JFW, Wilson/Sammy, Mangino/Heupel. Nice trend, if you will.

We won't be stopped by the teams left on OUr schedule....that's a certainty.
The 3 other teams in the playoffs are better than any teams OU played this season, when considering that TCU, Baylor and OSU played us without their starting quarterbacks. I see OU having a great chance to keep winning, but the slope is much more slippery. Michigan State, Alabama and Clemson have very good....and very healthy....quarterbacks.

Thank you for saying this CT. Some need to remind themselves of that little fact. Everyone on here is excited at OU getting a chance to win #8. But let's tap the brakes a bit when comparing OU to the other teams in the playoff. Like you said, ALL of them likely are better teams than what OU has played so far this season.

Riley is likely to make a great impression on a couple of the current staff....as in "take me with you" if he ever takes a HC job at the "right" school. Kind of as Bob Stoops did when he became the OU head man. I think he may become more likely to get a top job if he is patient, which would be another Stoops' similarity. Yeah, I admit that I am a Lincoln Riley fan, and don't want him to end up at the wrong school. Losing him wouldn't be like losing Mangino, Long or even Kevin Wilson who I greatly admire but took a bad job as did the others. Wilson is a better coach than Indiana will ever find again.

If Lincoln Riley is willing to learn more about the aspects of the game that he has not been part of, learn more about who OU is and learn more about our state, he will have all the tools necessary to take the OU job when Bob Stoops retires. Riley is young but he is football smart like Wilkinson and Switzer…. He is extremely likable but has the respect of his players much like Wilkinson, Switzer and Stoops.

Unlike any OU assistant Stoops has had I expect Lincoln Riley to eventually become a great head coach providing that he takes the right job from the start.

I thought his handling of the SC Opening said a lot about his 'Savvy'. He could get labeled 'Job Hopper' or 'Sold! to the highest bidder' if he starts his climb to the top too early in his career. He must pay his dues, and he'll get a great education right here. Smart to stay put for a few...

Interesting to me that Bob fires his OC last year (5 losses) and a year later his new OC wins the Broyles award for being the top assistant in the nation who happens to be an offensive coordinator and we are in the playoffs. Of course, our new QB has a lot to do with that too.

I hear ya. However, I was also doubted when I said before Baylor that if we win out, we're in. It's a burden I'm used to and comfortable with. ;) I will be very surprised if we do not win it all if JFW stays healthy.

The only thing that was doubted in your original prediction was that you didn't think OU needed teams ahead of them to lose in order for OU to get in. In the end, teams ahead of OU did in fact lose. ND lost and Stanford lost, which was HUGE in preventing ND from jumping over OU, even though OU had jumped ND before they had lost anyways. So in the end, both sides arguing the point on here were right.

Actually, more than a few doubted that our loss to Texas could be overcome due to SOS by Baylor and OSU. I did also point out that I'd be surprised if all 4 ahead of us stayed undefeated, but I believed that we'd pass ND regardless. We actually did move ahead of them BEFORE ND played Stanford and we played OSU, so a pretty good indication.

Besides, I don't see any "arguing" here at all. It's a mole hill, don't make it a mountain. I'm having FUN because I believe we're going to win it all for reasons I've stated multiple times. I COMPLETELY understand feelings of reservation and a more conservative view. Re-using a line used MANY times during our run...just win baby.

My bad then...I remember it being mostly a consensus that felt if OU won out and some teams ahead lost, then OU would get in. By the time we played Baylor, I think most level-headed people could see OU had climbed back up enough to be in pretty good shape if they ran the table against Baylor, TCU and OSU. Let's just be glad the ND and Stanford thing worked out to OUs benefit and we never had to find out if any "back room deals" got done to get ND in over OU.

And hells yes...just win baby!! I'm on board with that ST!!

Oh ye of little Faith! ;)

As much as some of us beat on Mike S. in the offseason (I'm raising my hand), there has been no more dramatic turnaround than Team Passing Defense Efficiency from #117 to #12 this year (BTW: Bama is #4 and Clemson is #7 this year, but our D earned its ranking in the most prolific passing conference in the country; Mich. St. is #69).. If that's all on our DB coach, good for him, but the pass rush is equally important here.

Mike deserves credit as the DC when the defense performs as it has this year.....just as he should be subject to criticism after a year like he had in 2014. But I also credit Bob Stoops for the defensive improvement in that he made the right decision to basically revamp the D's staff. Getting Mike upstairs, taking the DBs and his sideline rage away from him was necessary and showed me that Bob can make the tough calls. So good job, Bob.
