Kind of a melancholy week for me this week.

I don't get to a lot of Sooner games, though I have seen at least one per year for the previous 20. But haven't this season. And I've been to every CCG we've played in, except the 2006 game in Kansas City against Nebraska. It was the year my ex and I separated, and there was just too much going on.

I'd tried to get a ticket when they went on sale three weeks ago, but saw the start of the sale a few hours too late. I'll likely be more comfortable sitting in my living room. We've only lost one time when I was there. Of course, OU has only lost one, in 2003, and we still went to the national championship game, anyway. When you consider what the Sooners have accomplished in CCG's it's pretty amazing. This is the first time that we'll be going as the second place team.

Hope we kick some 'clone butt! ISU is a really good team. I believe this will be the Sooners biggest CCG challenge since they brought it back three years ago.

BOOMER!!

I was at that 06 game in KC. We had to beat the ice off our seats to sit in them. One chick offered me $200 for my coat, LOL.
The 99 yard TD drive was epic. Lots of disappointed and angry husker fans after that one!

Good stuff Plaino. Before the outbreak/injuries, I believed this team was playing as well as anyone (except Bama)...but I still like their chances. I would normally worry about them looking past ISU; they will get OU's full attention. I believe Stephenson and Perkins playing makes a huge difference...but I am most excited for the return of our online coach. 11 am Saturday?

The broadcast starts at 11 a.m. Not sure abou t kickoff, but likely pretty quick. They are bumped up at the end, against ND-Clemson, and want that to start wihout interruption. And they usually broadcast the celebration of the trophy presentation. Iowa State is pretty good. They sure impressed the committee. Tonight up to #6. So a Sooner win ought to mean something. I think we'd be just as high if we hadn't looked not too hot against Baylor. COVID only counts if you're an SEC team.

I'm hoping for a Big 12 Championship and an opportunity to play a&m in the cotton bowl...

It looks to me like A&M ought to be in the playoff. They surely ought to go if Clemson loses twice to ND, and if Clemson beats ND soundly, you can probably make a case that ND only won the first one because of four key Clemson guys sitting, including the best quarterback in the country. But the committee isn't anxious to put a 4th seed against Bama, who already lost to CT by four touchdowns.

Let's not forget buckeye. They've been handed a silver platter so far. I'm thinkin the wildcats will give em a run for the money.

Alright, just got your gist.

If I were on the committee, you'd have to have 8 wins to be in the playoff. When you only play five or six games, it's not hard to blow out Rutgers, Michigan State and Nebraska this season. None has a win against a team .500 or better. Then Ohio State beat Penn State when they were winless, by less than two touchdowns and beat Indiana by seven. GMAB

Agree totally sir. Maybe I misinterpreted your statement that "covid only counts if you're an SEC team". Seems to me that covid is what cancelled so many games in the big and buckeye was handed their title by proxy maybe? Committee agrees? I wouldn't get too wound up in this pandemic headscratching headbeating season. Imo. 😁

I think these conferences who started the season saying they weren't going to have a season, then put together a season with seven games and no extra weeks for problems, should not be rewarded for their tardiness by letting a team into the playoffs with five wins plus a CCG. This team less than half of a regular season. That shouldn't be sufficient, no matter how many five star players they have. I believe that tOSU is being evaluated based on their 2019 defense, which had the 2nd pick in the NFL draft, and isn't at that level this season. These evals are being made based on recruiting evals, rather than the team on the field.

And their quarterback, called by many a Heisman candidate, had a pretty mediocre game against the only decent defense they played all season. And there ought to be minimum requirements.

I was at that game as well. We were in the upper deck and never sat down because of the ice in, on and around the seats. That was a great game. Driving back to Omaha after the game with all of our Sooner stuff on the vehicle made the trip even better.

Wasn’t that the Paul Thompson year at QB and we sent Nebbish and slash off to the b1g in style with a loss ?
Yes and No.
It was the game Paul Thompson played quarterback, but it wasn't the game where we sent the Huskers off to th e B1G. That game came in 2010 when Landry was the quarterback. Not positive, but I think the Huskers jumped off to a 17-0 lead, but we came back and won it. The defense clamped down after an early bobble or two. There was a crucial end zone interception when we were still behind.

That was the only Sooner game I ever saw, besides a game against Texas, where I paid more than face value for a single ticket. Husker fans outnumbered us, but a lot of the were in the 400 section in Jerry World, which is a lousy place to watch a game.

There was a 50 yard pass from Landry to Kenny Stills that kind of got things turned around, as I recall.

I didn't know how cold it was in 2006. Both 2000 and 2003 at Arrowhead were two of the coldest games I've ever attended. So glad we got rid of CCG's at night in Arrowhead. Amazing that it seems every year in Kansas City was a night game, and every year in Jerry World, at least when OU is there, is an 11 a.m. kickoff. Except for the Nebraska kiss off. We also had an indoor night game in '07 against Mizzou.

What is Texas in the CCG? I think they're 3-3. They had two national finalists that won in the first one against Nebraska and the year they beat USC in the game replayed on LHN about eight times a month. And the year the magic second reappeared to allow their game winning field goal against the Huskers, then lost to Bama when McCoy got hurt in the first quarter sending Mack Brown into clinical depression. They lost to us two years ago in the morning. They lost to Nebraska in the late 90's, I think 1999. and they lost to Colorado, the year that Mack started his freshman son of the pro quarterback, then let his real quarterback, Opie Applewhite, almost bring them back after Simms sucked.

OU beat KState in 2000 en route to the natty. A freezer in KC.
beat Colorado at night in Houston at night in 2002.
We so sure of making the NC game in 2003, that we were flat, and got hurt at serious places, losing 35-7 to KState in another Arrowhead freezer. It's bad enough to be that cold when you win. Miserable when you don't.
Killed Colorado in half empty KC at night in 2004 when we were undefeated until meeting USC.
Beat Nebraska at night in 2006 at KC as previously discussed.
Beat Mizzou in 2007 at night in San Antonio. Should have played in the NC game, but SEC politics won out.
Beat Mizzou at night in KC in 2008 for our 5th straight 60 point game.
Beat Nebraska in 2010 as previously discussed, at night in Jerry World.
Then no CCG for six years.
In 2017 beat TCU in now permanent site of Jerry World in the morning kick.
In 2018 beat Texas at 11 a.m.
In 2019 beat Baylor in OT also at 11 a.m.
And against in 2020 in the morning, face Iowa State in their first CCG appearance, seeking to win their first conference football title of any kind since 1912. That year, they won the conference because they only played two conference games and won them both.

We went to the Baylor game this year. First game in Norman for us in several years. Very unusual. Less than an hour before kickoff and there were 5 people at the gate ahead of us. They were in by the time we got to the gate. Thirty minutes before kickoff, seemed like maybe 500 people in the stadium. By the time the game started, most of the available seats were occupied. The way the seats were spread out and being outside, this was probably the least likely place to contract COVID.

Fro U, I remember when we met in Tulsa when Jason White led a great 2nd half on a Friday night. Still one of my all time favorite Sooner games, meeting a dozen or two posters from this site. August 30, 2002, high in west side. Can't remember if it was still called Skelly Stadium, or the new name of Chapman. I just remember what I already knew for that night, just from hanging around the board. You're a really good guy.

A lot of us are feeling the same way, but remember when the experts were saying no way on a full season of football? The way things went in 2020 will make those things we missed feel so much better when they come back.

My doctor told me the exact same thing! Didn't help though. You authorized to write scripts?

😅
