First of all, if you care even a little bit about recruiting, and you're not on the premium side, you've missed the best effort by the staff here I've ever seen. Been here for 17 years. Josh M has been above and beyond in the last two weeks. It's worth the ten buck a month or hundred for a year. There is so much going on.

It is not an exaggeration to say that the Sooner staff may have new commitments five or six or maybe even seven four star and five star recruits in the last two weeks before tomorrow's signing day. If it comes to pass, it would mean that not only is Josh killin' it, but the staff is too. I've never seen so many guys who less than 30 hours before they sign their LOI, are still unannounced about their destination decision.

------------------------------

I'd also throw in some details from a written conversation that I had with Josh a little over a week ago. We on this free board are becoming more and more a detriment to what the site is trying to offer. These guys are not just employees. They own and publish the site. At least the top two do.

I don't believe it will come to pass, but there has been discussion about just doing away with this free board. They don't want to do it. I pointed out to him that this is where they generate new business for paying customers. But he feels like it gets so pissy and negative in the back and forth, that he's not sure just how productive that can be. I'd hate to see this go away. I love hanging around here.

I've been trying to back way off on the back and forth. It's not that I'm not going to speak my piece. I don't think any of us should not speak OUr minds. But the twenty post re-exchanges of venom don't do much really. I'm going to try to make an effort to say what I wanted to say, and then leave it alone. It's going to mean letting somebody else have the last word.

I encourage all of us to consider the same.

Now having said that, for me, it won't apply to fans wearing orange, or any color other than crimson.

I think there are going to be some pleasant surprises tomorrow.

I agree plaino, I've also heard this site could be on its last leg. I've certainly played my part in all the back and forth ( although with the latest development I'm innocent) but its destroying the board and will only get worse in the off season if we don't change. Anyways I'm excited about our bball team as much as I've been in a long time. Here's hoping we pull in some surprises tomorrow. Boomer sooner!

Plaino I know I've asked you before, but is the pay site worth it even during the off season? Maybe I need a change of scenery for a couple of months.

You can pay by the month, so if you don't want be on when it slows down, you can. I don't post as much over there for a lot of reasons. But the info and staff content premium side has improved steadily over the last five years, while the price has stayed the same.

It's not weekly, but likely 45 weeks a year, Josh, er Scoop posts his summary of the previous week's recruiting. He's done this for ten years. He's not always right, but 16 and 17 year olds change their minds a lot. His source list like any good journalist grows over time and I believe he never puts stuff out there just to keep you reading. I know that happens elsewhere some. He's good at his job and keeps getting better.

The video content from Eddie Rado is great. And it gives gave footage in from a prospective you won't find elsewhere. Not a much better way to relive a great win. All ground level footage, usually around ten minutes long, football and basketball. Interviews with recruits. That's not really my thing, but lots of people love it.

Murdock has inside info more on what's going on with the team. There is a new staff guy providing more content. Additional recruiting perspective.

If you're a Sooner fan, it's worth what is important to you. So if you love football but not much else, then you could pay for four or five or six months. But you also get some insights in spring football. But then, you might as well save the twenty bucks and pay for the whole year.

They cover basketball better than they ever did.

I'm pretty passionate about my Sooner sports, so I'd say it's worth it.

I've been saying this for a few years. Get rid of about 5 or 6 posters that bring nothing to the board but pissing matches and the board will eventually grow. I doubt that Josh will ever understand this this as he is soo busy on the pay board that he just doesn't have the quality time to see who destroys the board. Because of this, the board will most likely go by the wayside before he bans the culprits.

What destroys the board is the holier than thou attitudes of those who claim to know more than anyone else, then call people idiots or whatnot when called on something.

I don't give a rat's ass if that is what they decide to do. It is their's after all. I like being able to come on and post, but it certainly doesn't run my life. I've done the premium side and found it to be better, yet still not worth the money. Some dig it, some don't.

I also read somewhere that the former bama commit decommited because their were people bitching back and forth on a message board... damn posters need to behave. Hitler said so...........

You almost have me sold Plaino. Let me sleep on it. Bailed some years ago form the pay board but would like more stuff during the offseason, especially this one.

Would hate to have the free board shut down. Easy for old guys like me to skip the pissing contests and search for the factual nuggets about the players. And the contests here pale in comparison to the Irish and USC boards when talking about head coaches. All in all, a very good experience here. But would like more inside dope.

I"ve never been on the pay board, but I've heard it is actually worse over there in terms of the name calling, etc.

It definitely is...up to a point. You can't just spout off endlessly and think it will go unchecked. But people do have pretty intense arguments over on that side. The main advantage, is when posters like what troll around on this free board show up, they generally get hardcore smacked down rather quickly and get run off the board.

Not once did anyone crap on any post I made.

Sorry that it happens to you on this board regularly Fitty. You don't deserve it. I've loved this board for 14 years now. It was at one time my primary stop when on the Internet. But now the house is infested with cockroaches, bedbugs and fiddlebacks. Maybe torching this house is the only solution to eradication. I wouldn't blame Josh and company one bit if that is their decision.

Well, I blended in well on the pay board.
It's not that difficult.
Just post interesting, witty things...you'll get the love.

I would be curious to hear all these supposed times when people "crap" on fitty's posts.

I enjoy this board but there are fewer and fewer posters here all the time. I, in the last week, signed up for premium membership on the scout site. It was a tough decision between the two for me but I like Bob. Seems like a genuinely good person. Not to say they aren't here but I haven't seen as much of them on the news and free videos.

Ahhhh...ok. I'm with you now. My judgement of character is 99% accurate and my tendency to speak my mind on the topic is equal. My vision? Reminds me of a line from "Big Jake" as John Wayne is conversing with his Native American partner about his weapon of choice. "Near, or far?" Definitely near, as I get older.
I truly believe that you truly believe that which you express you truly believe in. That's integrity.

When, however, there is a lack of vision - temporary or otherwise - regarding what is truly right and proper, intolerance and condemnation often ensues. It happens to all of us at times. But, as I've been instructed, happy is he who promotes patience, civility and restraint.

In my own travels, I am inconsistent. Perhaps, you can be the better person.

I too, am inconsistent. I find that as I get older, that inconsistency seems to grow. Having said that, another thing I've noted with age is a desire to show up, stand up, and speak up when I feel a wrong needs to be confronted or addressed. It's a delicate balancing act, and while I am FAR from perfect at this challenge, I'll continue to take it on with a passion.

There are others here who share the same passion, and unfortunately, the written word can sometimes by misinterpreted or misunderstood without context and an experienced relationship between the reader and the author. I'm grateful you and I don't have that issue. Thanks for your input, as always.

Nobody involved in any of the constant bickering on this board come out looking good from the outside looking in, yet one faction or the other always feels as though they're "in the right". They all look like fools in the end and this board would be infinitely better without them and all of their personal vendettas.

Thanks billyray. I'll continue to use the ignore feature and add a couple if need be. Billy do you post there often?

I was a premium member in 2007. As Plaino said there is a lot of great info available that I probably would have missed out on had I not been a member. I never posted one time but I read almost all the threads. That's where I found about the Sooner Message Board and started lurking here until I finally got up the nerve to post in September 2013. Now that I've become comfortable here, I would consider joining the premium board again if they shut this board down. Recruiting news isn't that interesting for me until NSD and I've learned not to get too excited about a recruit. For me, it's better to wait until Bob puts his team on the field and watch what happens like I did growing up a Sooner fan. Back then it was always exciting to see the new sophomores and others that have taken over for last year's senior graduates. We knew very little about the newbies until September. All the instance information we have today has proven to be a disappointment for me as I have not been a very good judge of talent. I've gotten really excited about several recruits that didn't work out. So now I just wait to see what happens and was very happy with how Mayfield played last year just as Perine did in 2014. Both really nice surprises. I can't wait to see who comes to the top next year. I like to talk and read about OU football, and I'm not too interested in getting into online squabbling even when I feel I'm right. It's not that important for me to make sure someone knows I won. I saw a lot of that on the premium board and wonder how much worse is is now because it's gotten a lot worse here since 2013.

This board has changed as has the Sooners play changed. In the early 2000's, there was not a need to complain and/or discuss the reasons why something occurred or didn't occur. We were all busy swatting fly bys from rival teams. Through this course of time, as more & more fans became participants of the board they would voice their opinions. As such, a few of the posters that's been around for many years pushed back, as they did not want to read/hear these things. They pretty much considered this place their sanctuary. As a result, they have run off more posters than one can probably count. But time & influence by performance has caught up with the board & things have changed. The dust up (that we witnessed and many were a part of including myself) the past 3 years or so was an all out assault to save their sanctuary. While I can appreciate them wanting to keep things as is, it's an impossible task. Through the course of time from 2000 til today, there is more online information made readily available for all things, not just sports. As such we have more to read, analyze, and discuss. When this occurs, polarization can set in as well as personality conflicts. Some can handle it, some can't.

It is what it is. I wish no one ill will when I discuss OU football on this board. But this board is in place for ALL OU fans and not just those fans that a few from the old guard wish to approve or disapprove. It the board survives, good. If not, it'll be at the hands of the few. Either way is good by me.

You paint the picture of a linear progression starting in the early 2000's. You're entitled to your opinion. But January 12, 2012 is the day that the board really started going to hell. I remeber it well. I was a moderator. It may have been linear up to January 11, 2012, but it's been exponential ever since.

You also paint the simple picture that it's all a matter of differing opinions about OU football. I disagree with that too. I remember heated debates going on here when I arrived. Rememebr Frank Fangston calling people "dunderheads"? Nope... this batch that showed up in January 2012 have done a lot more wicked BS than just debating about players and coaches. The source of this board's problems can be traced to a small group. Had they not shown up, I bet the board would still be a great place today.

Slight correction...."Dung Head". I got a few of them myself......LOL

You're correct in that my post reflects what I see and there is no doubt that you see things from your point of view. I don't take issue with this. I remember that day as well. It was roughly about the same time I grew tired of Huepel as the OC and expressed it openly on the board. Needless to say, it wasn't received well by a few. But my point is that things change and this board will never remain the same. I agree with you that there are some that should not have the privelege to constantly destroy threads to pleasure themselves and at the detriment to others. There was a time when this was handled.

This has been an interesting thread. Good subject and information, Plaino. I haven't read a post that's gone too far and everyone has remained civil even while making their point. I'm going to admit something. First of all, I always thought the talk about BillyRay, Yankees, and Barking being the same poster was just a joke. The reason is I didn't know that you can have more than one active handle, never mind being able to participate in a thread using more than one. So I've learned something tonight. BTW, I don't understand why anyone would truly think BR, Yankee, and Barking could be the same person. They all live in a different city and are not the same age. How could that even happen??

I don't get it? Maybe I need to stay overnight in a Holiday Inn Express..........

Just a failed attempt to be funny on my part, K2. I do that from time to time. You think I'd learn but I can't remember not to try. Now that I know it's possible, I may get myself an extra handle so i can "like" myself.
