At 6’3” 205 lbs, I absolutely love the addition of Gibson to the Sooners.
At first glance, he has an NFL body with excellent coordination and the ability to control his frame at a high level. He seems to be a really solid runner who excels when it comes to running the out, dig, post while also having solid speed to get vertical.
I think he is the perfect compliment to Burkes and gives Jayden Gibson another player who will draw similar attention. His production at Arkansas Pine Bluff was excellent and it’s good to see Oklahoma bringing in a guy who is ready to play as opposed to a project. Do not let the small school confuse you, is absolutely legit.
I love the way he adjust to the ball in the air and almost always makes a play on it. He doesn’t do the “fake make up play” thing that a lot of receivers do where they seem to be efforting for the ball but really don’t the cajones to truly come down with it because they know it’s going to hurt or they are going to take a shot. Gibson has all the courage in the world to make these plays and made them at the lower levels consistently.
For his length, he is incredibly coordinated and has very strong hands. That being said, I hope Coach Jones can help him be more aggressive, and how he attacks the ball with his hands because I think it will help him with his YAC. Because he can tend to catch the ball against his body, albeit very well, it hurts him in getting yards after the catch.
Overall, this is a fantastic pick up for Oklahoma and really provides them a threat at the receiver position and allows Burkes to potentially play more slot or use his abilities in different ways instead of having to be the primary receiver every down.
I think he has an NFL body and has a wide array of releases at the LOS to evade bump
Coverage, something OU struggled with last year.
To me, this is a B+ addition.
