I think almost every Sooner fan I know is in agreement that Mike's departure was long overdue. There was a collective sigh of relief with the announcement of his decision to leave the program. It should have happened after the Rose Bowl, but even though it was done mid-season, I'm okay with it as it probably comes at a good time with the bye week to give the coaches an extra week to get their plans in place.
For years, I've been hearing many Sooner fans also say that the Big 12 Conference needs a strong Texas program to give the conference more credibility. In the last two days, I've heard talking heads on ESPN and CBS Sports Radio proclaiming "Texas is back!" And to their credit, after losing to Maryland, the horns have put together a nice run with wins over USC, TCU, OU while struggling against KSU and Baylor (Ehlinger hurt his shoulder in the first half and Buchelle came in to direct the win).
So, with Mike's departure and Texas's resurgence, there should be lots of joy and happiness in Soonerland.
