It's an old topic but personally I am glad he is here. Seems a perfect go to for one season. I think Rattler is going to be the guy but I do like that he will get to watch for a bit on the sidelines and with the 4 game redshirt rule he very well could see some time this season. Tanner could give a good battle and make things interesting. If Hurts is what we are hearing he is, The two qb's behind him will benefit. Hurts so far, seems to have fit in pretty well. Fingers crossed, we'll see.

I believe it's a realistic view that Hurts represents, to a degree, a seamless transition from Murray and Mayfield.
Hurts is not as good as them, but who is ?
Hurts comes to OU at the absolute perfect time, all things considered.....which includes allowing Rattler and Mordecai to develop further without as much pressure.
It was my hope that Hurts would transfer to OU from the beginning. 2019 looks a lot more manageable with him.

I think he gets us over the hump of solidifing the new Oline as a unit by being a very experienced dual threat.

If he can consistently pass the way he did against Georgia we have the offense that could win the natty, and Hurts wins the Heisman....

Wait and see on the defense though, but there is reason to be cautiously optimistic...

If reports from spring practice are valid Mordecai has the stronger arm and is a better passer and his running ability is good. Hurts isn't and bad passer but his running skills are outstanding. The key is his ability to learn the system, bond with the team, and the development of the O-line. I think Mordecai and Rattler will be a battle.

Hurts is not a bad passer. He's just not an elite one. His numbers at Alabama reflect his good success as a passer....and 12 picks in 707 attempts is very low...along with 48 TD passes in 42 games. He just got beat out by a better QB, who almost won a Heisman.
I was impressed with Modecai's one game outing last year and his arm strength was impressive on a 29 yard toss late in the game vs FAU.
Agree that Mordecai and Rattler could have a hard fought battle earning backup status, but I think both will see action this year.

I like Hurts being super mobile...this with a young OL cutting teeth in front of him. He will have good command out there. Keep in mind he has played against far better defenses than the chump ass Big 12 will throw at him. He will be probably out there laughing his ass off...

I'm curious to see if Riley will give the impression that there is a real competition between Mordecai and Hurts like he did last year with Murray and whats his name. I'm personally not going to fall for it again

Hard to believe that Mordecai, as good as he may be in spring and August drills, would be a better option over a veteran, battle-tested ex-Alabama QB.

Great post. I fear losing Mordecai down the road. He will have an outstanding career somewhere. I hope it is OU.

Mordecai ran a 10.79 100 meters in high school. His 40 time in HUDL is listed at 4.6. Hurts completed 62.9% of his passes at Ala. That's very close to L.J.'s OU career number. Hurts being less of a passer to Mordecai is a relative thing. Hurts is a very good passer. Same with running stat. Moredcai's reported 4.6 is very good but Hurts at 4.4 is really good. Our QB situation is a good thing; however, it apparently is hurting our 2020 QB recruiting efforts because of a room going forward with other Mordecai and Rattler sitting there.Im a big fan of Mordecai after seeing him play in H.S. We may well lose him to transfer going forward.

Hurts gives us the best chance to have a great season this year. He's been a solid QB at Alabama and I think he's going to develop into a very good QB for OU this season.

I agree. I think the OU Hurts is going to be much different from the Alabama Hurts. Let's hope it's better different rather than worse different.

Oh I agree, but something tells me Riley is going to try and sell it like he did last season

I'll bet my left jewel that Hurts doesn't run a 4.4.

So I should have said...in the 4.4's. Point being, he is faster than Mordecai by a good amount. At his size he literally becomes a viable running threat as part of a more run oriented offense. KM ran sparingly by design. Much of KM's runs were scrambles, not be design.

We have a couple of big time receivers coming back, and three five stars coming in. I want someone back there who can sling it. Straight line speed doesn't mean much for a quarterback.
