Stop here if you hate boring posts.

I ignore the ads. If I shop for a floor jack, I know I'll get floor jack ads on every web site I visit. But there is one company, Google, that is really pissing me off on this web site. And I wish the Rivals programmers (Yahoo) could see what is going on.

Google has their "s.ytimg.com" wanting to access my computer to store information that will determine what ads I see and sell that information with other scumbag companies that want to flood me with their BS. That is nothing new. But in Internet Explorer 11, sometimes s.ytimg.com takes control of the scroll bar and does not allow me to stay scrolled down to read the posts. It automatically scrolls back to the top of the page. Usually hitting refresh solves the issue. But still, it pisses me off.

Someone will tell me to "Stop using Internet Explorer. use Chrome, or use Firefox". Those are not what they are cracked up to be. Chrome is owned by Google, so what does that tell you? And Firefox's tracking protection is a scam. Internet Explorer has the best tracking protection of any browser.

(BTW, "ytimg" stands for YouTube Image, thus all those Flash Player ads you see.)

Well, I gave you a like 22, but I totally confused on all the tech part. I have Hughes Net internet service. I once called them because I was exceeding my bandwith(?) limit per month. They told me I was using to much on U-tube, which I very rarely open. I soon figured it out that videos were playing automatic on all the websites I visited.

That is exactly what happened. They stole your data allotment without your permission to force ads on you.

Well, since we're on the subject of the internet, how does sites like face book and craigslist make money? I never see ads on those sites. I never use face book, but my wife does.

Craigslist doesn't charge me a fee to list a product. Just wondering......

Facebook ads you to death. If your buddy looks at a Walmart ad or "likes" Christie's Toy Box, you get to read all about it. Your friend doesn't even know it, but the post makes it look like it came from him. Facebook is about as unethical as a business can be. But it is fun to read the PMS rants that my smoking-hot coworkers go on now and then. My plant manager "likes" the big boob'ed porn stars, and everyone gets to see it. But none of us have the heart to tell him. If you want to know what someone is really like in real life, be their Facebook friend. (smiley face here).

Craigslist is an old-school Internet site. Much like the excellent Project Guttenberg or Wikipedia. It's all about freedom of speech and freedom of the Internet. You can bet they have been offered zillions of dollars in a buyout, and it may happen some day. But the programmers are making tons of money on all their other commercial web sites. Craigslist is a bad place. Really bad. Be careful.

One other thought about social networking sites and Craigslist. Law enforcement and our government love them. Think about it. Criminals are the stupidest dumbasses on Earth. Give them enough rope to hang themselves.

I don't use Facebook, Craigslist, etc. here at home to avoid the constant ads I get on my office computer, but I suppose that if you use your computer at all you are going to get crap you didn't ask for one way or another. I try to limit clicking onto anything offered on a site. Except for my personal accounts that allow me to manage our household, I stay away from most websites except for the frequent dictionary.com hits to define what fiffy is posting. :D

I guess I still don't get it. I listed a used riding lawn mower on craigslist. Sold it the first day. I didn't have to pay a fee for the service they provided on that one transaction? No ad pop ups. How did they make a profit off my sale?

I understand about the scams on craigslist, I'm careful. As far as facebook, don't ask me......lol

More confusion.....Why do they have a website. It's all about money..............

Your world view is from the standpoint of capitalism. Believe it or not, there is a school of thought out there were it isn't all about the money (although the Craigslist people make big bucks selling their skills to commercial web sites... just not Craigslist.) The Internet was never created to make money. It was created with the mindset that nobody owns anything, is free, there is freedom of expression and speech, and even the code is freely shared. But it was exploited to become a money maker. Unix and later Linux operating systems (which the Internet is built on), and all the Open Source software was never created to make money. The idea was to be contrary to that. The super-excellent XBMC media center (now known as Kodi) doesn't cost a dime. It is free. They don't make money off of it. And anyone is free to add to, or subtract from the underlying code. It is hard to explain, but there are people out there (yes, they are mostly very liberal and have very socialist worldviews) that do this for the sake of freedom. That isn't a bad thing, even for socially conservative folks. But along with all the freedoms we enjoy on the web, comes the really dark and evil crap.

Damn 22, that post was heavy...............I got most of the gist of it until you started talking about XBMC media, UNIX, Kodi and Linus, after that you lost me. Well come to think about the whole post lost me............. I thought I was reading a fitty post.................JJ

Craigslist is a bad place because there are dummies who don't take precautions. I have sold lots of items on Craigslist and have never had an issue. I only take cash and I exercise due diligence to avoid the scam artists.

I sold a $32,000 boat a few years ago. I had a fellow offer me the price of the boat, but he wanted to pick it up that night and give me a cashiers check. I told him the only way I would sell the boat was with payment through a direct deposit and that I would work with his financial institution. Never heard back from him. Sold an RV the same way and also never had a problem. Have sold camera equipment, tires, rocks and other items with no problems.

If you are stupid then I wouldn't recommend Craigslist. If you have a brain you can navigate the scam artists easily.

I once looked at a 1994 Buick LaSabre on craigslist. The guy advertised it as an original auto with 32,000 actual miles. The sucker was clean, but I looked at the foot pedals and new they were well worn. I dug through the glove box and found a oil change receipt for a change at 132,000 miles. BUSTED! The guy had rolled the miles back..

No I don't............ I just don't get it. Once again. How does craigslist keep a website with so much bandwith without charging a fee or doing advertising? Speak in Okie........LOL

OK, I'll speak in Okie.

Weekend (free time) = Inviting the buddies along to Texoma for the weekend and doing something you really like.

Work week (no-fun time) = Earning money elsewhere to pay for the bass boat, the cabin and the beer.

Kind of like that. Craigslist is part of the software developer culture that is obsessed with keeping it free and accessible to everyone. The money comes from other sources.

I use Dove for Men soap in the shower. Seriuosly. Lol.

I'm sorry.........

I introduced "Dove for Men" back years ago when I worked for Unilever. During the intro some girl asked how many would buy what was a basically women's soap.

The answer was very PC, but they projected 10% the first year. We reached 8% percent of the total market. They hinted, but never said it that nearly all of all the homosexual males would use it. 2% would be men that really needed to moisturize their skin and 4% that the wife's would buy it for there men, just because they used Dove products.

I use Lava....with pumas...............

Ha! You're the guy. I remembered when you talked about it here. But I couldn't remember who it was. That is when I went out and purchased it the first time. I assure you that I am not a hobosexumo. I started using it to wash my hair. It works great for dry scalp and stops the itching. Then I just started using it on my entire body. My skin on my face stopped flaking. I am sold on it because it is a good product. Now I fight off the ladies like the guy on this old Hai Karate commercial.
