There's been some discussion of OU's recruiting ranking among the new SEC teams. Currently, OU's 2023 ranking among new SEC teams is:
  • Overall: 4th on 247, 5th on Rivals, 4th on On3
  • Average star rating: 6th on Rivals; Average player rating: 6th on On3, 6th on 247
Also note: the 12-team playoff will have 6 automatic bids, Notre Dame will probably get a bid most years, and the Big Ten will poach a few at-large bids (Michigan, tOSU, USC, Penn St., etc.). The ACC might poach an at-large bid occasionally, with Clemson, Florida State and Miami. So I'm guessing the SEC gets an average of 3 teams in per year.

Since 2014 (excluding 2020), the SEC would have gotten 3, 1, 1, 3, 4, 3, 3, and 3 teams into the 12-team playoff (average of 2.63).

I think that this type of class is good for a playoff berth about every other year, but probably not good enough to win a national championship. But it's also still a good class to build on. So, was this class good enough for everyone else? What is our ultimate goal as a program on a year-to-year basis, and how well do we need to recruit to get there?
